Well said NH & jtr. My sentiments exactly. EM won't have to fire Romano, just replace his (awful) impersonations of Garrett's voice and dub them over with Stephen Russell's voice. Mr. Russell is a consummate actor and I have no doubt he'd have absolutely no problems doing those voice overs.
I think my objection to EM using someone else to replace SR as the voice of Garrett has grown into resentment and disbelief because of the flimsy excuses they've used. They don't want to be mired in 'nostalgia', yet they're remaking a game that's over a decade old and claim they're trying to keep the essence of the world of Thief intact. They want to 'reinvent' Garrett, and at this point their excuses for not using SR just come across as stubborness - my interpretation of all of EM's responses on the subject is 'It's our game and we're doing it our way'. (Remember, it's my opinion and I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth here; just my interpretation.) I know it still doesn't really matter to some; especially those gamers who have no idea who Garrett is or who don't have a clue about what Thief is all about (referring to the original two games, of course) and really don't give a fig - those gamers who'll see an Assassins Creed/Dishonored/DX:HR type of character/gameplay and think 'Kewl!'. But it matters to enough people that a petition was started in protest of EM's seemingly callous disregard of the man who brought Garrett to life and imbued him with character and substance. Stephen Russell invented Garrett, for cryin' out loud. If EM got that wrong, if EM misunderstood that basic fact (or chose to remain deliberately obtuse regarding same) then what else have they borked in their Thief 'reboot'?
Sometimes imitation is NOT the highest form of flattery, imo.
Edit: We passed the 4000 mark! Way to go, Taffers!

Yeah it's their bs excuse that got me the most. But honestly like I said I'm starting to suspect EM did have intentions of sticking with SR, and then Square Enix took over and gave orders to put a new guy in, the most probable reason being they want a new, younger, hip Garrett for the masses. The motion capture thing was probably the excuse that Square Enix instructed them to tell the public in order to placate the fans.

Ah, what does that even mean?
You are a strange one, GMD.

Im just thinking that if they sold a game for 50 bucks 4000 potential gains or losses would equal 200k. Just a simple look at some simple preliminary math. How much does it cost to pay Stephen Russell to duplicate the lines of the new guy and release a "hardcore fan only special edition" with the Russell spoken lines. Prepaid of course, and (

Lazy maths.
Were 100% of these people definitely going to buy Thief? No, but they are likely fans so we could say that perhaps 90% of them will have been planning to, and that's generous. So we've got 3600.
Will 100% of them not buy it just because there is no SR? No, in fact if it gets good reviews from places that care, like RPS, 90% of these people will STILL buy it. So you've got less than 400 left.
For a game that might sell 100s of 1000s of copies, and maybe even 1 million +... they won't. give. a. crap.

You win. I win. We lose.
Im terribly sorry if I disturbed you. Take a deep breath man.

Judging from past experience, if it sold a million copies, they would consider it a massive failure.
