ONWARD!

At this point, I'm starting to doubt this game is going to do well in sales whatsoever, for the following reasons:
-Eidos Montreal censuring even the slightest bit of negative criticism on their website- If you want your game to do well, listen to the feedback from fans. Do you want to have tons of money to pay for Square-Enix's overblown budget or what?
-Next-gen console exclusive- While it's obvious most Thief fans play the series on PC, it's not fair for those who don't have a powerful gaming rig and are therefore stuck with a console. As RazorFist pointed out in his YT video, fewer people are going to purchase these consoles than ever in comparison to previous generations, so why not do a port for Xbox 360 and PS3 players in order to maximise your potential profit?
-Stephen Russell not voicing Garrett- Now, this is amongst one of the biggest complaints in regards to this reboot. I mean, we've got a petition that has reached 4100 signatures, as of this post. And yet EM feel that censuring this petition(and of course the negative criticism surrounding this predicament), will somehow make all their problems go away:rolleyes: Just get SR to dub over Romano Orzari's lines while Orzari gets to remain the motion capture actor. There, problem solved. Need we remind them that the game is first-person(so we don't even see Garrett's mouth move) and that the whole reason you're rebooting this franchise is because of nostalgia? :tsktsk:
Third-person takedowns- Garrett's a thief, not an assassin. He shouldn't be capable of doing these things so easily. That, plus it just destroys the immersion.
Dumbed down gameplay- Encouraging players to use Focus Mode to find their next objective or find all the loot in the level, instead of allowing them to find it out for themselves? :nono:
I could go on and on, in regards to the many problems that this unnecessary reboot has. But from the looks of it, I'm not even gonna give this game a chance. Barely any of the features I liked about the original trilogy(and the many fan missions on offer), have been retained and the way Eidos Montreal are treating their potential customers is nothing but truly disgusting behaviour.

It'll sell well.
People will buy it because they liked DX:HR, even though that's not very related. People will buy it because they believe marketing. People will buy it to spite those of us who don't like what we are seeing hearing overall. Even "haters" will buy it because they've admitted they will, though some of us mean what we say, typos and linguistic errors aside. People will buy it because they don't have discriminating tastes, and can't trust their gut instincts like others can. People will buy it to reward EM for making a stealth game called Thief, and think there's a huge connection to respect. And people will buy Thief[4] and never play it, 'cause compulsive-buying games is an actual hobby and/or lifetstyle.

I think that once this game comes out, and EM doesn't change the voice actor back to Stephen Russell, all the true fans who didn't know before will know after that. And people who don't care about Thief will buy it because it looks all shiny and Assassin's Creedish, play it, then throw it away, and then Thief 5 will do so much worse.
That's how I figure it will go at least.
Speaking of the voice acting, today while I was casually flicking through articles on Wikipedia about Halo, I read (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortana#Attributes)
this about Halo's character Cortana:
"
Cortana was played by actress Mackenzie Mason using advanced facial rendering technology to capture movements in her face while speaking to add a more human look."
While the voice actress is/was Jen Taylor, not Mackenzie Mason. Proving that yet another multi-million making game, which sold over 8 million copies in the past 2-3 releases, could do both mo-cap and have the voice of a person other than the mo-cap actor/actress put over it, and still do so well.

Or an illness.

Or more like their to-play queue is 10 games thick.
At this point I can't justify buying a game anywhere near release just because there are so many games I've already bought I need to play anyway... Dishonored is the last game I bought right around release, and that was probably more than anything to reward Digi & Purah, and because I was excited to see its levels right away.
BTW, I recall a chat with Digi once where he said his & Purah's input from their experience in the FM scene did actually have an impact on their level design, particularly the level of sophistication for some things (you all should know Digi & Purah and the kinds of complex gameplay scripting they were adept at), which made me very happy to hear. It's exactly the kind of input I really hope/wish EM could be getting too.

Yeah, but there's a huge difference between Arkane and the monster that is EM. You're talking < 50 employees vs. 300+.
MoroseTroll on 9/5/2013 at 19:02
I know, it's offtopic, but still: I wonder how does the Thief brand cost? I mean if Bethesda buys the Thief brand from Eidos/Square Enix and says to Arkane: "Ok guys, hire another internal team and let them work on a next Thief game."
