Your... 'logic'...is that we shouldn't pass judgment until we've heard the performance, and should instead offer copious support...
It would help if you read from the beginning, my posts have nothing to do with evaluation of Romano.
Let us go back, lets focus.
I originally posted this:

That is a lot of signatures of protest, for sure.
I hope people will take time to send their personal "thank you" messages to Stephen too.EM will send it directly to Mr Russell. Thanks to Skaadi.

So, to repeat and clarify my post. I personally hope as many people will sign the "thank you" card for Russell too. It would be a shame not to imo. I know that many are saying that by doing so they are somehow saying goodbye to SR and they refuse to do this, or they want to change EM's mind etc etc. and this sentiment is understood, of course. However, we also have a thank you message card that doesn't appear to be getting as much attention, sadly. There is no agenda attached to the thank you card; its just a genuine gesture to send something special to Mr Russell. I hope people can understand the petition and the card are two different things, they are completely unrelated and have no effect on the other. The petition is there; people are signing it... the thank you card doesn't effect the petition at all. Both serve their purpose and I just hope people can recognise this difference. It would be a shame for this opportunity to pass by. The saddest most disappointing outcome would be to send SR a digital card with hardly any messages on it for him to read.

Hi guys :)
I probably shouldn't really get involved here, but I thought I should say something.
Personally I wouldn't even think of it as a goodbye thing, because that certainly wasn't what I had in mind when I suggested the idea. Honestly I'm just as annoyed with the VA decision as you guys, but as Thiefessa has pointed out, the petition and the card are two completely separate things. I've been a Thief player since I was about 7, so like many of you I grew up with Stephen Russell as Garrett, and honestly all I really wanted to do was say thanks, that's it. So I'd really really love if at least some of you guys could send messages, because what kind of Thief fans are we if our appreciation card was limited to 30 or so people. That's certainly not going to make him feel good.
So honestly, please, if you want to send something, here's the link for the Eidos thread: (

If you're not signed up, or don't want to post there, feel free to post something in the thread located in the general Thief discussion area and I'll pass it on :)

Man, I hope people don't think the petition and "card" are the same thing. That shouldn't even be a concern. :o
thiefessa on 8/4/2013 at 10:26
The concern is that there are too few people signing the thank you card, sadly.

First you play the "guilt card" (Disrespectful to Romano) and now it's the "sad card"...
The truly saddest thing, is that EM put the fans in this position in the first place...all thanks to their callous, misguided move...The biggest, truest, thank you of them all, will be knowing his fans love him so much that they are not willing to put him out to pasture with a "farewell thank you", but to fight for his righteous return.

What you state is disingenuous, because that's exactly what you had in mind when you suggested the idea...(
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=136564) "Really gonna miss you - Thank you so much for all your amazing work and here's to you moving on to more amazing stuff in the future."...You started the thread off with the idea of a resolved farewell to Stephen Russell...and this idea inherently runs in opposition to a protest of wanting him back.

They may be two different items, yet they compete on the psychological landscape for the mindset of a "resolved farewell" vs. an "unresolved fight for his return"...Given the circumstances, with the current backlash and protest, the "resolved farewell" idea in the minds of many would surely please EM, and they will of course offer their assistance to promote such a mindset.

Well, you're entitled to your own opinion I suppose, but if you're looking for an argument I'm not really going to oblige you. That's partly why I was so hesitant to post here, everyone's getting so aggressive over the issue.
We're all showing our support in different ways I guess. If you're inclined to leave a message, that's fantastic, if not, well there's probably not much point trying to persuade anyone past what I've already said.
jtr7 on 8/4/2013 at 11:18
Easy does it. It's not what you think, and it is your opinion being taken into account. It looks like two opinions, is all. People will go by their own opinion, but if they read your seemingly two-sided opinion, they might get confused or take it wrong. This is happening all the time, especially with something we are so passionate about.
thiefessa on 8/4/2013 at 11:20
Shame a person (people?) are not listening to the sentiment and insist on turning the discussion into some nonsensical political or psychological agenda of some sort. It's ridiculous.

Agreed.
