Seriously? That's what you got out of that reply? You imagined a rude response to stoke your ire?
People. Congratulations. You've turned TTLG into the new NMA Fallout boards. A bunch of overly hysterical, self entitled know-it-alls griping about each and every little thing you can come across, because...
...why?
Because you all love being victimized. Of course they're not going to understand
us. We're special, oldschool gamers with
taste. Additions to the game like making a character agile is against Thief. We'll say we're open minded, and we only want the best game possible, but when we treat a goddamn developer saying something as simple as "games aren't designed by committee" as a personal insult, like they spit in our faces..well...
...it kinda proves all our supposed good intentions and claims of "hoping for the best" are just lip service. We're bitching just to bitch. We don't want to like this game. And we never will.
I really need to quit coming down here. Follow NH's example and move on. Stick to the Gengamer Thief 4 thread, where things are at least relatively sane, and there's a much better chance of having a discussion without jtr7 popping in to scream about how we don't understand what he's saying, Spandex beating his chest. I don't want to risk contributing even the smallest part to this damn pity party circle jerk you've all made for yourselves down here. I'm afraid things might go critical down here, and I'll suddenly see this cancerous little subsection of TTLG metastasize into other parts of the board, ruining everything for the rest of us.
CUZ MY GOD, DID YOU HEAR? THEY HAD THE NERVE TO SAY THEY'RE TRYING TO LIVE UP TO THE LEGACY OF THIEF! THE NERVE OF THOSE F***S! THE ARROGANCE! I HOPE THEIR CHILDREN DIE IN A FIRE! RARRRR!
You're wrong. I don't believe anyone here feels victimized....I don't. I simply care about the game. The game they're putting together could be almost any medieval looking stealth game. It just feels pointless to me. With TDM we are prevented from making a Thief game due to copyright laws, yet Eidos owns the rights and they distance themselves from the rich history of the series even more than we had to.
Change is great, change is fine, but when you change so much that it's pretty much generic...it gets a bit ridiculous.
Some folks here aren't as invested in the game as others while some of us feel more passionately. It doesn't make us maniacs or self victimizing assholes....no more than your attitude makes you an apologist or blindly accepting fan. There are simply varying degrees of what people consider acceptable to speak out against.
I don't intend to stop pushing the petition, I simply won't be partaking in the forum discussions anymore. I've asked to have my account here deleted, as I had my account deleted at EM.
There is intolerance across the board Renz, and you are no less guilty of it than the rest of us.

Yeah, I think I'm pretty much done here too. As NH said, I've found myself getting far too angry about this crap lately. It's just not worth it.
I love you guys, but I think I'll hang out at the other places here at TTLG for awhile. See ya there.
I really don't see this at all, and I've been as vocal a critic of perceived acrimony and anti-Eidos Montréal sentiment as there is, in the past.
All I see is a thoroughly positive, constructive and united effort to remedy a mistake. It's a great thing to see.
It's not just a matter of a change in voice. His performance and influence is nestled in every conceivable facet of the game. It's essentially the 'nervous system' of the body of Thief. Sure, if you look at a diagram of the human body, you might say to yourself 'Wow, there's a lot more going on here than a nervous system', but I guarantee, if you remove it, not a single element of the body will function correctly or be unaffected.

To all of you who have taken the time to post here and elsewhere over the last few days, I wanted to finally come out from the shadows and express to you how truly overwhelmed and astonished I am by the appreciation so many people have shown. The fact that people all over the world have responded so positively to the work I was fortunate enough to be able to do means the world to me. Creating Garrett's voice (and Benny and Karras) and working closely with the incredibly talented and encouraging audio team at Looking Glass, particularly those geniuses Eric Brosius and Kemal Amarasingham, was one of the highlights of my life and I'm extremely grateful to them for the opportunity. I'm also more grateful than I can ever express that so many fans responded so enthusiastically over the years and continue to do so even now. Anyone who's been involved in the performing arts for any length of time knows full well the vagaries of the business, that there will be good times and there will be not so good times and one always hopes that the former will outweigh the latter. I consider myself very fortunate that I'm still working and enjoying what I'm doing even if the winds have change have once again brought new directions.
With sincere thanks and all best wishes.
Stephen
You deserve all the appreciation sir. Thanks and all the best wishes to you as well.

Wow, Renz'. You keep getting really worked up over things no one's saying. Are you okay, man. I mean, you really are scaring me. I hope it's just a forum thing with you, and your life is okay. :erm:
In the meantime...
ONWARD!
And thanks again, Captain!

jtr, you really need someone to take a look at that humour chip of yours, and have that sarcasm detector fixed as well. :erg:
Renz has got a point there, I think. I feel that I'm not discussing here with people who are anticipating a new Thief game at all. There are posts from people with healthy criticism and a balanced point of view, but those are often buried under the mountains of sour grapes and endless and irrational moaning about every single detail. I see a bunch of people who clearly have great love for TDP/TMA, but who simply won't accept anything that differs from the old formula. The True Thief formula or something. Which is totally fine, by the way - it's your loss if you can't enjoy the new game and it's not taking anything away from anyone else - but just stop pretending that you really want Thief 4 to succeed, because you clearly don't.

I entirely agree with this. There is nothing fanboyish about what we're doing, as some have stated. We simply asking Eidos to fix a mistake that they are obviously making. A
stupid mistake, at that.
Imagine if there was a new Lord of the Rings in which Frodo Baggins wasn't played by Elijah Wood, for no good reason other than "new technology, yay!". That'd be pretty retarded of the moviemakers, wouldn't it? There is simply no way the new technology could ever be good enough to redeem the immersion they have taken away by replacing the actor. That's exactly what EM are doing with the new Thief.
Also, I love your vocabulary.

Yeah, we've even heard whispers of dark and wicked sabotage.
Seriously though, I can completely understand why some regulars are choosing to detach from this kind of activity. It's all rather "silly", to say the least.

Simply asking means just that, you simply ask. So now that we have established that you've asked (and received an answer); what are you doing now?

Did you not focus on the salient points of his post?
