I went looking for more about T4's "The Eye", to see if it's an usurped pronoun or related to THE frikkin' EYE, and this thread Googled up. NeoGAF was brought up earlier. Enough posters in this thread might feel like most of us here do and pay it forward:

Since the writing was influenced by Stephen's voices in TMA and Thief Gold, and Benny and the humor were fed by Stephen Russell, and what Stephen brought out in the devs for story and level design and the artwork, everything would somehow have to stay as interesting and fun for me to have given a damn about Yul Brynner doing a voice-over for a game. This isn't the first time that dumb argument's been brought up, so it's not the first time anyone's thought about it. The fact Stephen isn't a known celebrity except among gamers has been a plus. We'll be hearing this argument for years. TMA was the first one I played, so not having Uriel, Benny, Garrett, or Karras as I know them could very well have left me less intrigued, and bored, and I doubt it would have entertained me more. It would be interesting to see how the writing would've gone if other actors had been chosen, and to see if there would be even better actors influencing the writing in an alternate history. If I'd loved whomever was doing all the voices and characters then, and it wasn't Russell, then I would be invested, but the chance I didn't love whomever is also a possibility. If I was invested and the voices were just as entertaining, then I'd be bothered with the changes, especially, as we've been stating, the
reasons for the changes. The lame lame reasons. It's the same with any medium. Change a fundamental I love to something lesser or less-relateable, then of course there will be a problem. Of course.

I understand what you're sayin', Q. And I really do hope it ends up being an outstanding game, honestly. It may turn out that I'll have to play the game the same way I tried playing TDS; kind of disconnected. Because though it was a Thief game, it just didn't feel like Thief to me - the total immersion I'd grown used to in TDP, TMA and a multitude of outstanding FMs just wasn't there (among other disappointing aspects). I'm worn out defending my opinions on T4 (so far) (and TDS as well) to be frank. I was expecting something entirely different than what I've read/seen/heard about T4 so far - maybe that's the problem .... I had expectations. I know there's a lot more to learn about T4 and I guess that's just me; I want to know more because I want to know if T4 is going to be the kind of game for which I'll pay $60. If (in my own personal opinion) it turns out to be nothing more than a fancy update of TDS (as in seriously dumbed down) then no, I won't waste my money. But I won't know that til I have more information. All I was saying was that I'm not going to buy this game just because it has the word 'Thief' in the title. I need proof that it'll be worth my while (and money) to play.
And it's okay if you don't think the petition will get us anywhere. It's enough that you support it. :thumb:
Nuthin' but love for ya, now & always.

But don't assume any changes are automatically for the worst.
That isn't the case, though.
No one's making their determination on Romano's voicework from an informational vacuum. We've heard his work. Short of waiting until the game releases, what more proof do we need that, at least in this specific case, change is
bad?

Again, we have celebrated welcome changes, so for anyone who keeps equating problems with one set of things as a problem with the WHOLE thing, are the ones guilty of the very thing they are accusing us of. We aren't doing it, they are. Also, again, repeatedly, what a portion of all the displeased people say is not what all are saying. And once again, for the nth time, things that aren't welcome now have never been welcome or ceased to be welcome some time ago, so their presence here is a continuation, not anything new nor surprising.

Sorry to break into the current conversation, but does anybody know where I can find the post or video where Eidos employees or somebody from Eidos gives that excuse as to why they can't do a voiceover with Stephen Russell despite mo-cap?
You see, I don't know if this was pointed out to Eidos Montreal before, but when they said "SR can't do mo-cap" we asked "Can't he do a voiceover?" and they said "It wouldn't make sense that all characters have natural lip-sync except our main character.", I thought of this:

http://imageshack.us/a/img62/1789/finalresult.pngHEY EIDOS, DID YOU NOTICE HE HAS A MASK??? DID YOU KNOW HE HAS A TAFFING MASK?!
Sorry to get all excited but yeah... ya'll get my point. xD
But now, I want to find that post so I can add it ontop of the meme so people who view it on the internet know what's going on and what this meme is referring to/talking about. If there is no such post, if it was just a statement in a video, then I'll take a picture of that moment and add some text when they say it or something like that.

Brilliant! You've really nailed those Eidos Montreal idiots to the damn wall! Way to expose their hypocrisy and show that the only reason why they didn't hire SR back is because they want to turn the game into a bog standard handholding MilSim shooter. If he's wearing a mask, why worry about lipsyncing, you liars?
...but you forgot one thing.
YOU KNOW THE MASK ISN'T GLUED TO HIS FACE, RITE? LIKE HE CAN TAKE IT OFF FOR CUTSCENES AND MISSION BRIEFINGS AND STUFF LIKE THAT, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHERE HE'S GONNA SPEND THE MOST TIME TALKING, AND WHERE THE GAME WILL SPEND THE MOST TIME FOCUSING ON HIS FACE! HOLY F****** SHIT!
NO WAIT! I'M WRONG! IF WE SEE EVEN A SINGLE SCREENSHOT OF HIS FACE, IT'S PROOF THAT THE GAME WILL BE PLAYED ENTIRELY IN THIRD PERSON AND WE SHOULD KILL PEOPLE FOR FORCING THIS TRRRRAAAVVVVESSSSTTTTYYYY UPON US!
I'VE SEEN THREE SCREENSHOTS AND A GODDAMN PICTURE OF A DRAWING! THE GAME SUCKS!

bad? It's like this. If someone tells you to close your eyes for a surprise taste test for a new type of chocolate cake, and gives you a vanilla one, you're gonna think it's the worst chocolate cake in the world. You know what chocolate tastes like. You have expectations. Vanilla tastes nothing like it, and you'll be taken aback after that first bite.
Despite the fact the vanilla cake is actually pretty good.
This is exactly what's going on here. Everyone knows what Garrett sounds like. This new guy? He doesn't sound exactly the way old Garrett sounds. You all were expecting one thing. You got something else.
See, I went into watching the trailer without many expectations. Most of my time in Thief has been spent playing FMs, so it's been YEARS since I last heard Stephen Russell's Garrett. When I heard the new guy, I thought he was a pretty close match. Didn't think he sounded wooden at all. I mean I wasn't exactly blown away by the performance. The trailer wasn't really emotionally loaded enough to really stretch someone's acting bones anyway. But really, nothing about it struck me as being amateurish or stunted. It was good voice acting.
(in before "that's right. It was
just good...")
I'm not trying to be an apologist here or whatever. The new guy really isn't all that bad of a voice actor. The only problem is you all were expecting Stephen Russell, and he's not Stephen Russell.
