Brilliant! You've really nailed those Eidos Montreal idiots to the damn wall! Way to expose their hypocrisy and show that the only reason why they didn't hire SR back is because they want to turn the game into a bog standard handholding MilSim shooter. If he's wearing a mask, why worry about lipsyncing, you liars?
...but you forgot one thing.
YOU KNOW THE MASK ISN'T GLUED TO HIS FACE, RITE? LIKE HE CAN TAKE IT OFF FOR CUTSCENES AND MISSION BRIEFINGS AND STUFF LIKE THAT, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHERE HE'S GONNA SPEND THE MOST TIME TALKING, AND WHERE THE GAME WILL SPEND THE MOST TIME FOCUSING ON HIS FACE! HOLY F****** SHIT! .....
Calm down Renz. That picture
was funny. Unlike EM's reason for not using SR in the first place. You're entitled to your opinion (though my ears are still ringing from all the shouting ;) ), but so are others who don't buy into EM's lame excuse and/or who
don't think the Romano did a very good job of impersonating SR in the video (because that's exactly what he was doing, ya know). Not casting any aspersions on Mr. Romano's acting abilities here, just sayin' is all. It matters more to some people than others and comparisons were bound to be made.

"It wouldn't make sense that all characters have natural lip-sync except our main character."
Kinda just feels like a bullet they can put on the box, ya know?
- Over 16 missions in a free-roaming city!
- Highly advanced and intelligent AI stealth system!
- Every character fully motion captured for outstanding immersion!

Our animators spent so much time animating Garrett's hands and his extremely complicated gadgetry, that we said to hell with animating faces to go with words!

NO WAIT! I'M WRONG! IF WE SEE EVEN A SINGLE SCREENSHOT OF HIS FACE, IT'S PROOF THAT THE GAME WILL BE PLAYED ENTIRELY IN THIRD PERSON AND WE SHOULD KILL PEOPLE FOR FORCING THIS TRRRRAAAVVVVESSSSTTTTYYYY UPON US!
I'VE SEEN THREE SCREENSHOTS AND A GODDAMN PICTURE OF A DRAWING! THE GAME SUCKS!

http://images.wikia.com/deadliestfiction/images/d/df/Calm-your-tits_o_857534.jpgIf I'll play devil's advocate:The cutscenes are a chance for the scant lip-sync we'll be seeing, also if they kept the element of eating food that he may pick up in kitchens etc.
Why I disagree with you?:1.So far in the Thief games you don't see his face that frequently and even less times do you see his lips moving in the briefings, reading of scrolls, books or papers, even in Deadly Shadows(you hear him narrate the briefings but don't see his lips moving, but you see him in the cutscenes moving about in DS), it makes up about 70-80% of all the talking. And in-game speeches or comments continue whether or not his mask is on, but I doubt they'll make a special hotkey for mask-removal just so we can gawk at his mouth.
2.And for Eidos to first go ahead and introduce the mask and then make such a huge deal about lip-sync when they know that it will upset the fans that they chose it over SR - did they totally lose sight of what this game is about or is this indicating that the lip-sync/mo-cap is their backbone without which they're not capable of making a better game? Seems to suggest that is all they're coming with, which is screaming with disappointment for us.
3.Garrett does not like to cooperate with others; keepers, pagans, other thieves(downwinders for instance), hammers, obviously the undead as well, city watch and so on. And if he is going to be alone most of the time, whom does he talk to? In the first two games that brought the Thief series success he's been talking to himself like in the briefings, and we didn't have to stare at his lips while he narrated them which fit the first-person perspective like a glove.
4.You have to acknowledge one fact at least: Thief is what the title suggests that it is, it is not a talkshow; i.e. lip-sync is the least of the worries for making another sequel of an epic game, especially if you're going to introduce a mask to the protagonist that is supposed to fill a function obviously. Otherwise what is the point of having it if he is going to keep removing it every time he says anything? And if he isn't going to say much then why do they so ardently keep to lip-sync rather than listen to the fans they're going to try and sell the game to?
Besides why would he continuously remove the mask when he is out on a mission? I doubt we'll be seeing much of him sitting at home.

Sorry to break into the current conversation, but does anybody know where I can find the post or video where Eidos employees or somebody from Eidos gives that excuse as to why they can't do a voiceover with Stephen Russell despite mo-cap?
