Google isn't taking away anonymity. NEWSFLASH: You can tie a Google+ page to any typical made-up handle and use that to comment on Youtube, it doesn't have to resemble a IRL full name in the slighest. Multiple Google+ profiles can be tied to one account, so here's one for you the person, another for your WoW RP server toon, yet another for your Vampire The Masquerade LARP character and finally one for dog. It's entirely innocuous.
But please don't let reality and facts disrupt your reactionary tantrums. Continue with your autism-fuelled, "The Man is taking away my rights and Big Brother are watching me" paranoid tirades by all means.

Good. Here's to hoping Youtube comments will improve in quality.
Yea! now we see 100,000 characters long spam comments and ascii art of nazi symbols, "death to google+" texts and male genitals mostly. Not sure is it improvement or not though :cheeky:

Just curious, but how many who voted "don't care" actually use the youtube comment system, either after the new comment system was released or anytime?
I've never felt any reason to comment on a youtube video. They're not that important.
Truly, the whole need to involve yourself in other people's shit via social networking or comments on news stories and videos is... bizzare. It's like the 'Like' feature on Facebook. Who wouldn't click "like" when Aunt Millie posts she has ovarian cancer or had been raped by a pack of Armenians? It's ridiculous self-involvement that is totally unnecessary.
A forum like this, though, is different because one comes to something like this to discuss things or make comments. But why comment on a video--especially ones about mormon underwear, why yawning is contagious, or fresh vs frozen food? What kind of discourse could one add that would be anything worth saying?!

Yup. Mostly arguing with sexists, racists and conspiracy theorists. Mostly a frustrating waste of time it clearly wasn't designed for.
This is...the same?
I've got a pre-google+ account which helps a bit. The linking is probably an unsettling development for a few reasons. But there's not much to save in the comments themselves unless they are going for a proper forum-like system.

I'm split on this. On the one hand I like that Google are rolling up their different services like this. I only have to remember one username and password for my Google Drive, YT, and my Android workphone? Great! And if it brings up the level of discourse in YT comments that's also great.
I agree...that's actually the good part of all this.

On the other hand I'm sad to see how the anonymity of the internet is being reduced bit by bit. The ol' Wild West of the early internet is being civilized. When it's gone I'm gonna miss it. Warts and all.
That is the inherent problem with centralized services that comply with government encroachment...Although the expansion of liberty need not meet a humanity-stiflingly end, if we as species decide to act with awareness, rather than blindly accepting whatever is fed.
UPDATE: Now the co-founder of YouTube has spoken-out against the change:
