Some of you may know that in spite of me buying the Thief games when they came out I only just discovered FM's and this forum recently . Since I joined this forum about 2 months ago I have been hacking my way through the FM's , and enjoying the heck out of all of them , even the simpler older ones . I initially started downloading by Hammer score , but then someone in one of my other posts suggested I download and play them chronologically , which makes more sense in that if I start with the most elaborate I may be less inclined to play the older simpler FM's . So far that is not the case .
But I am glad I found this forum , this community these FM's and I appreciate all the creativity and effort that was put into making these FM's . Thanks everybody !

I started late on FM's as well and played a lot of the earlier ones. Eventually though I decided I simply couldn't play the majority of FM's. I'd either get burned out or it would take too much time. So I went on to just playing some of the really good ones and ones I found to be intriguing. It is true that I find it more difficult to go back to older ones now that I've played so many amazing ones but I'm just glad I got to have so much fun with the ones I've played. You still have many many adventures to be had. :thumb: Some FM's are better than the original games in my opinion. The Rocksburg series exemplifies this very well.

Well it looks like you've made a good start, marsman. I felt much the way you do now when I first discovered this community for the first time a few years ago. I too played Thief when it first came out but had no idea this place existed. I've played many (if not most) of the later FMs and yet I still enjoy playing very early ones I've never played before. It's like taking a trip down memory lane. It takes me back to my roots and I never get tired of simple, straightforward Thief, even with blocky architecture and stock resources. I can't think of another game that I would feel this way about.

A few I recommend:
T1:
- Calendra's cistern
T2:
Ruins of Originia
Eclipsed
Hammerite imperium
Keeper of the prophecies
A Night in Rocksbourg series
Forbidden Rites

Actually what I think is good about going chronologically is that you can get a feel for when certain FMs came along that they broke all the barriers of everything that came before them ... like the first time we saw a camvator cutscene, or custom textures & then objects, then later entire custom AI, new events, new play styles, etc. Every time we'd see something truly new, our jaws would drop.
That's the cool sense I think you get when start oldschool and work your way up (which most of us were forced to do without choice. At least you have the liberty to cheat a little when you want and play a recent one, lol, which is admittedly nice. BTW, I'm just starting to play Tomb Raider fan maps for the first time 10 years later, so I'm going through the same thing there.)

Welcome to the thread. I suggest you keep an accurate list of the FM's you play in file seperate from darkloader. I didn't and regret it. Your bound to go back years later.

Dylan James - I guess we will see how much patience I end up having for playing the older FM's , I am just coming into my busy work season , but I am enjoying them also , maybe one a night or every two nights .
Tannar - Yes indeed like a trip down memory lane !
Azaran - Thanks for the recommendations , I have been compiling a list as I have been reading through the forums and yours have just been added to the top .
demagogue - I started playing The Rose Cottage this morning and for a minute there I was not sure I was playing Thief . It was very cool but unthieflike so I decided I would save it for later and continue on with some of the older FM's .
bedwine - Just by dumb luck I suppose but I actually have my FM's in their own seperate folder from Darkloader . Maybe I was thinking that this would be a way to copy them later for the friend of mine who turned me on to Thief1 way back when , believe it or not he had no idea about this community and FM's either .
