As some of you may have heard, there are games on PCs. "Diablo 2", a PC game released somewhen during Cambrian Explosion is most notable because even though it was released 530 million years ago it's still being supported.
Well, kind of.
See, in april Blizzard announced a Ladder reset "to coincide with the release of the 1.13 patch that’s currently in development". Now Ladder's the meaning of life for people still playing Diablo 2, so it was kind of a big deal - pretty much everyone stopped playing because there's no point in playing when everything's gonna be wiped off in a week or two. Or a month. Or three?
In July, another update. Seems like a bug in Warcraft 3 was discovered which allowed malicious hackers to steal your megahertz over the Internet. The team which was supposed to be working on the patch for Diablo 2 was re-delegated to work on much more important patch for Warcraft 3. So no D2 patch till people can play DOTA again. Bugger, but at least the 1.13 is "very far along".
August - Warcraft 3 patch was released, unfortunately it turns your PC into a bomb. So the Diablo 2 patch team was re-delegated to patch the previous patch. Oh well.
September - They're finally working one the 1.13! "Please keep in mind that any number of factors could delay the start of the PTR and ultimate release of the patch" doesn't sound very reassuring, but hey, now that Warcraft 3 is fixed what could go wrong?
October - I'll just quote Blizzard here:
Quote:
The Diablo II 1.13 patch is on temporary hold while we investigate potential impact on the Battle.net service. As we moved closer to launching the patch concerns grew that an increase in the player stash size (a feature in the patch) could compromise the Diablo II Battle.net service. The hardware and configuration could potentially not handle the increased stash size gracefully under heavy load. Currently we’re investigating potential impact as it is one of the larger content features in the patch and we’re hoping it can remain a part of the release. If it does have to be removed it will require additional time to remove it, generate new patches, and test, which will add time before we can go live on the PTR.
And finally, a picture which sums up the situation pretty well - Google Trends of "Diablo 2 ladder reset":

Heh, playing D2 over battle.net. I used to like it, but... it's really nothing just being a human bot and running the same map a thousand times.
Hope 1.13 is something fun though, might replay D2 just for the sake of it.
Also, what if 1.13 is really low priority for Blizz, resulting in the delays? I mean, it is an old game which generates next to no revenue now.

What a gloriously opaque thread title. As always, our kooky Koki delivers.

Ah yes, I was wondering what was going on with 1.13. Stopped checking for news a long time ago though. Been doing one or two solo runs in D2, usually just 15 mins of gameplay for the charm of it.

Is there a patch or mod that makes the entire game more palatable to a single player experience? I found it a big sack of unbalanced bullshit and quit midway through the jungle chapter.

i don't have (better said, lost) my online character for diablo2 a looooong time ago. I installed it recently again when I found out you can redownload the whole game if you still got your old key from the blizzard website. since then I just played a little bit of single player, I would not dare to enter the online realm without a high-level friend that drags me through the high levels. I would not wanna replay the game just to get the necessary items/money to trade. well, maybe I'm gonna replay it when they release the new patch.
