I would recommend not working around it. No one should be using 1.19 anymore. There is no rational reason not to upgrade to 1.21. Just tell them that the mission is not compatible with 1.19 and get on with it. If they persist in using 1.19, then they will be missing out on more and more missions.

Newdark 1.21 was released 5 months ago. That's enough to get used to it. Someone should update the Thief Fan Missions FAQ. That one is pretty much outdated. BTW, there are way too many "Important" threads over there. Players can't see the wood for the trees.
