It is a good game. It may not be the sanctified T1/T2 experience but it's still a very good game. The Cradle alone puts TDS above most commercial titles.

If I could choose between a Thief IV on Thief III level or none, I'd take the first. :p
Same here.

since I can't get Thief1+2 to work on my win-install TDS is all I can play if nostalghia gets ahold of me again. over time I really appreciated it more for what it is than for what it is not. And it is a good game and does offer a few really rewarding gameplay mechanics and interesting setpieces. It is not, however a Thief game of the same quality and atmosphere as the first 2 parts, letting go of many little and big things that made this series so memorable BESIDES having a guy called garrett live in a medival fantasy world with magic empowered devices.
nowadays I would even doubt that they can get the "like Thief3" part right, let alone believe that they can pull off a Thief4 on the level of DarkProject Gold. But I would not mind that they try and if they fail "TDS-style" it would satisfy me enough :)
I hope they played STALKER to see how much art design and attention to detail can make a game and make you enjoy even the buggiest AI and engine .

I think most of us would be impressed if it captured the feel of Thief 3 with or without much help from the LGS/ISA devs. I hope we can be more respectful this time, in our brutal honesty.
And if it is the start of a second trilogy, then there will be a chance to improve it--unless they have to use a new engine and editing tools and screw up their learning curve by starting over again.

You don't really think they're going to use the same outdated engine? If they're going to use Unreal 3, the basics in the editor are still the same as in the previous two engines, so don't worry about that.
Two days remaining...

That's not what we mean at all. We're not talking about the engine, but the ability to make a Thief game without having been a part of its history in any way. New authors writing a sequel to a classic novel by other authors. Can the new authors capture the tone and spirit and depth and humour?

I'm pretty sure that
here some people could.

I agree. I hope we can make a positive impact on the future of Thief, then.

Well if I get the choice between a TDS-Thief4 and non T4 I'm seriously inclined to take the "NO T4" option.
Honestly, I was disappointed badly about TDS - I don't say everyone has to feel like this or TDS is a bad game. BUt I would put it this way: TDS was a nice game, nontheless it was a bad Thief.
The cradle is definitely overrated - it was somehow scary but it lacks inspiration, since it was practically a lame copy of many aspects from the movie "Haunted Hill". 70% of the cradle bases on this rather awful piece of cinematic crap - sry noone gets credits from me for taking other peoples ideas and mending them into a game / level.
