a mob is a general term for any type of monster that isnt a player. There's a generic AI for all non named monsters in wow, eg dragonkin, humanoid, undead, critter.

Yes. I make a point of mocking MMO players who have so distanced themselves from the game fiction that they think of the gameplay exclusively in terms of the underlying mechanics. You'll never catch these people specifically naming any creature short of an Epic Boss... everything else is just mobs, mobs, mobs.
Granted, one rarely needs specific reasons to mock hardcore MMO players.

Agreed. Plus it sounds so
stupid. I seem to recall 'Mob' is supposed to mean 'mobile unit' or some idiotic explanation, but that has all the hallmarks of whatever the abbreviation equivalent of a backronym is. Mob is a plural term, ffs.
