A cyberpunk sneak game would be very cool and should be done, but except for the scenery not so uniquely Japanese or ninja like.

A second that idea:
A cyberpunk spinoff series of Thief would be a great idea.

Well, we are straying from the original topic...anyway, I would love a Ninja game. I am currently putting Tenchu:Return From Darkness (Xbox) in the system every couple of days, only to rage quit after 1/2 level. I am just so disappointed in the mechanics. It isn't a stealth game as much as an elegant back-stabbing sim. You can literally RUN up to them if they aren't facing you and jump on them and throttle them. :(
SubjEf: great idea. I thoroughly agree with this idea. It could sell well, too with the right publisher/advertising campaign.

Well, when you consider that Japan is slowly turning
into a cyberpunk dystopia...

I approve of this idea, something akin to the first Tenchu but in 1st person and with a bit of history would be nice. I think it would also be a good idea to have a hideaway for the player or his ninja clan kind of like Garrett's house in T: DS where you can train and learn philosophy etc.

Does anyone remember the ninja assassin videos from Shogun: Total War?
That turned into a game would be awesome.

That is
exactly what was in my mind.

What's so fantastic about this setting is the ability for the developer to stay true to reality whilst also having a lot of freedom in innovative tools and unique stealth gameplay.
There's a bit of first-person in some of the clips too, although I'm not sure whether first or third person would be best.

That's what I'm talking about. 1st person only though. Playing that would be great.
It has amazed me for years (since Thief 2) that no one has decided to do this. The existing ninja assassin games are very action oriented. I want something slow and skillful, with a high chance of fail if you don't do it properly.
