Just wanted to pop in and say that Arabian Horse by GusGus (or Gus Gus, who cares) is a strong contender for my top ten of 2011.
Fave track so far: (

Started off great. Too many vocals for me. If they put some modulation on the vocals it'd work better, but there isn't enough going on in this for me.

I may have forgotten something very obvious, but my definite highlight of 2011 in music was (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBg_h9kmRhk) Hotel Shampoo, the third solo album by
Gruff Rhys (of Super Furry Animals). It may be his "safest" (as in least experimental) album so far, but it's full of pleasant melodies and it's a pretty solid album from the beginning to the end. I've played this album
a lot since it was released in February.
Another great album that I bought last year was (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndzKAaZ3prs) TMS and The Baptists by
The Mighty Stef, who single-handedly restored my faith in Irish music a few years ago. The Mighty Stef sounds very Irish indeed, something like The Pogues with a hint of Tom Waits, but he's mixing a lot of different styles and influences so it's kind of difficult to explain - just check out the link above and have a listen!
A honorary mention goes to
Michael Monroe and his new album (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0R68LBeQ3U) Sensory Overdrive - it's a good old-fashioned rock'n'roll album (emphasis on the word "good" ;)), so if you're into that kind of stuff, I would definitely recommend it.
Happy 2012 to you all.
