Seems like TTLG somehow missed the Tom Vek boat this year too, which is dumb because it fucking rocks.

Mogwai released TWO RECORDS. An (
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Hardcore_Will_Never_Die,_But_You_Will) album and an (
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Earth_Division) EP.

Kurt Vile's (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu9K40JjMx0) Smoke Ring for My Halo was a joy.
(
http://blackoutbeach.bandcamp.com/) Blackout Beach live at the Orange Hall was a nice little release off of Bandcamp.
Fucking (
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Tyler,_The_Creator) GOBLIN was certainly the best hip-hop (? ugh) record, if not one of the best records of the year. No competition.

Gardens & Villa's release would have been great for anyone enjoying the Californian summer, but it could only do so much for me in the Australian winter and I've worn the album out now.

King of Limbs was awful, as was the Fleet Foxes release
I had a soft spot for the Modeselektor effort - the Thom Yorke guest vocals didn't hurt.
In more esoteric fields, Merzbow's (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZaRa) Za Ra was a great study companion for a week or so.
Six Organs of Admittance's (
http://www.dragcity.com/products/asleep-on-the-floodplain) Asleep on the Floodplain is probably one of the best folk albums of the year.

Crystal Stilts' effort was better than a kick in the teeth.

Sonic Youth (
http://70.32.78.35/sonicnews/?p=1394) released their soundtrack for 'Simon Werner A Disparu' and it rocks like a bastard
Stewart Walker's (
http://www.sonofcataclysm.com/) Son of Cataclysm work was his best in years (follow links for soundcloud).
Of course let's not forget Aja and Conelrad's EPs - both fantastic

Also St Vincent fucking sucks and should die in a fire along with everyone who gave her any critical acclaim
PigLick on 9/11/2011 at 05:36

For me, I'll go through my usual process of stacking my ipod with ten bands I've never heard before that people are blathering about and I tend to end up with one or two new bands that join my yearly rotation.
This good idea. Me do. M83 loaded.

King of Limbs was ok, but it definitely feels lackluster in general.
Scots Taffer on 9/11/2011 at 10:11
Holy shit Vernon, thanks for the list
