Have to 2nd Chasm. That game if you stuck with it gets really awesome from midway in. Just like Deus Ex 1 it has a really crap 1st level though.
So you're saying that Chasm's first level is awesome then.

You got me there Koob. Not sure why I never considered Wolf as a WWII shooter.
Well, in your defense, the game was so basic it really had little to do with WW2 except the occasional swastika and Hitler poster :p

So I'm also a fan of 2.5D shooters, but I think I've played most of the ones that I want to at this point. I'm probably going to play Doom 64 next. I'm planning to play on the N64, but I may switch to Doom 64 EX if it gets too hard without mid-level saves.
However, once that's done, I'm thinking about replaying Quake. However, I never played either of the mission packs and they are pretty cheap on Steam now. Are they worth picking up, or should I just replay the classic four episodes? It's been quite some time since I've played those either way.

To be fair, Wolfenstein was definitely not your average WW2 game, either. It was very much a "behind enemy lines DERRING-DO" type of game. Pretty sure we didn't actually see something that more closely resembled the war until WW2GI.

I currently have Wolf3D on my PS3, a lot of fun to play on the big TV with a gamepad. But the splash art shows BJ blasting guys with what looks like a non-bullpup FN-2000 and the nazis are wearing something like OD green and have M-16s. So historical accuracy was obviously even lower on the list than in Inglourious Basterds.
As for Quake. I'd really like to replay it with Darkspaces or something. but I also have no experience with the add-on packs.
I finished Shadow Warrior last night. For the (supposedly) most advanced build engine game, I didn't really find much in it to keep me interested. Blood and RR seem to be a lot more liberal with the interesting tricks to get around the limitations of the engine and make cool stuff.
I'm on to RR now. This game is even more uncomfortable to play than I remember it being. I wonder what it was about the mid to late 90s that requried every FPS to be as awful and offensive as possible. But some of them have some really great level design.

Pathways Into Darkness (Macintosh game) was the first one that I ever played, and it was Bungie's first hit game. I'm told that a version for modern Macs is available at the Mac App Store. Totally blew my mind that there was a game where you advanced by talking to dead Nazis while fending off horrible monsters and scrambling to find ammo.

I've never liked the first level of Deux Ex 1, so no I'm saying its terrible. After the 1st level it gets way better for both games.

Deus Ex's first level is awesome.

The only reason I hate the beginning of DX is because I've played it about 20x more than the rest of the game. I would probably be quite fond of it otherwise.

I almost never played DX because the demo was so bad (IIRC it was the training level and the first mission). Only ended up getting it when someone who knew how much I loved SS2 recommended it as a similar game.
