hi guys,
I've recently started learning DromeEd, and I should say that so far it was a very enjoyable experience, mostly thanks to communities like this one :)
However, on my way I've encountered my 1st major problem... When trying to make a custom 3d object and convert it to .bin file using tools from DromEd Basic 1.13 (Tools\3ds to bin\3ds\Workshop\) which is n3ds2e and others, I keep getting "illegal command" in dosbox concerning n3d2e :(
Here is full a breakdown of what i did starting with a test mesh, so maybe you guys will notice something wrong at early stages...
The mesh itself is done in 3dsmax. I wasn't sure if size might be an issue, so just in case I am also showing my grid and scale setup:

Then I placed objtest1.3ds in the same folder where all the conversion tools are, so here is also the contents of that folder - maybe I'm missing something? So far I could tell that essential files are there, no?

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Two things:
1) in DOSbox change your drive to E:\ - you're still on Z...
2) regarding units: in 3dsmax set your system unit to 1cm - not 1 inch. 1cm equals to 1 foot in Dromed.

Isn't that the GUI-version in the Toolkit? I'm pretty sure. No need to use dosbox and the like.

Not sure if this might help but shouldn't the command be like this?: n3ds2e objtest1.3ds objtest1.e

Finally i open DosBox...
Is dosbox needed for n3ds2e in modern OSs? Try running it from a normal command prompt.

n3ds2e is a command line program. The GUI version is 3ds->bin, which should also be in the toolkit.

The .e filename is only needed if it the user doesn't want it to match the 3ds filename.

thanks a lot for quick feedback, though i have no idea what a gui version of a tool is.. i was just following the tutorial about custom mesh import procedure which i found here:P
But... i've got it to work :)
PinkDot made me re-consider the location from which i try to run the program... It's really weird, because I was using "mount" command and it gave me confirmation that it was set to the correct folder in dosbox, but indeed in the end it still shows "Z:" for some reason...
So it seems that i was trying to launch the n3ds2e from the wrong location thinking that i was in the correct location actually.
Eventually I've sorted out the location problem and after that i managed to convert a test mesh and got it in the dromed along with test textures, so i haz a happy :)
@ PinkDot - regarding the units, i'll look into that. But so far the object which was using inch system in 3dsmax (it had roughly 3x3x3 inches) seems like 3 feet in dromed, so i guess that is probably fine too...

(
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUI) Ahem.
And seriously, stop using DOSBox for anything to do with DromEd or the Dark engine. It's completely pointless. All the command line tools run perfectly well from the Windows command prompt.

lol, i know what a term "gui" means, i am just clueless about a gui version of the dromed toolkit...

Fibanocci meant a GUI version of the 3ds conversion tools, not the toolkit. To use that, you should run the "3ds to bin" program.
fibanocci on 31/12/2014 at 19:13
Yes, I mixed it up with 3ds to bin
