So my sister gives me a $50 gift card to GameStop for my b-day... I've been out of the game loop for a bit, so I'm not sure what is good. Doesn't have to be brand spanking new. Any recommendations? I like just about everything, every genre from RPG to sports.
I'm thinking the Overlord series and/or Burnout Paradise. I'm not much for the COD series, so COD 4 doesn't appeal too much (COD has too claustrophobic a feel... I prefer the Battlefield series of games).
Dragon Age, Borderlands, and the upcoming Darksiders look interesting, too.
Anyways, just looking for suggestions.

If it hasn't have to be new I recommend The Darkness, it's every bit as good as it is flawed, but a unique game it is for sure. Storytelling can make forgettable/awful gameplay seem unimportant.

I just finished Mass Effect, and it is terrific. Engrossing, interesting, intelligent (meaning, it has an actual plot, a storyline, moral choises, surprises etc) - it was just a great ride. Highly recommended.
Assassin's Creed 2 was also great, but 50 bucks won't get that for you, I think.

Thanks... re:$50, I don't mind stepping up another $15 to buy a new game. The $50 is more just the impetus to buy a game.

I just got done with this too and had a similarly great time.
It's also available (at least in the EMEA zone) for download from XBOX Live, and at a lot less than $50.

well gamestop can't get you this game, but if you find you've got 15 bucks left over to throw at a game once you're done I'd highly recommend Shadow Complex. If Metroid had gone this way rather than the way of Metroid Prime i would've actually enjoyed a game in the series after metroid fusion. Shadow Complex isn't perfect, and its not quite to Super Metroid's Level, but its the best throwback to classic gaming on modern hardware I've ever played, and kicks the crap out of all those new contra games.

Yeah Stealth Complex is fun... I own that one and Castle Crashers, both great XBox Arcade games that are a. fun and b. the young daughter likes to watch.
Mass Effect looks really interesting... forgot about that one, and now it is cheap.

Anyone played Burnout Paradise? It looks interesting... sandbox style racer.

I also recommend Mass Effect if you are looking for a good RPG.

Burnout Paradise is mega fun, Mass Effect is engrossing. Assuming you don't have a gaming-suitable PC rig I'd also strongly suggest the GOTY edition of Fallout 3, but I have no idea how much it retails for. Dragon Age is excellent as well, and the one thing it has over Mass Effect is it doesn't require you to use the damn Mako vehicle. Haven't gotten around to it yet but Borderlands is supposed to be a blast.
The Darkness is terrific, and you should have plenty of change left over from $50 if you get that, maybe grab Condemned as well, it's definitely worth a play.
