A friend of mine sent me a link to the kickstarter campaign for a relatively interesting looking game:
(
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/7daystodie/7-days-to-die-zombie-survival-game) 7 Days to Die
Apparently it mixes the construction/crafting/exploration aspects of Minecraft into a more graphically impressive zombie apocalypse setting. The alpha gameplay videos they have up certainly look intriguing if nothing else. The concept is solid and sounds awesome (especially considering how disappointing Day Z was), so I figured I would help spread the word about it. I'm skeptical about whether or not it can pull off all of what it aims to be, but I'd love to see them try. Some of the stretch goals would also be fantastic (especially the random world generator and world building tools), so I hope the project gains some steam and starts to generate some more buzz.

I'm not surprised by how slow the funding is going for this, the Kickstarter boom has slowed down significantly. If this campaign was run a year ago, I bet that it'd have hit several stretch goals by now.
As I said in the general Kickstarter thread, It will probably get funded. If there's anything that the masses love, it's zombies, Minecraft and tower defence. This one has all three of those elements.
It's doing really well on Greenlight, currently no. 2. It will probably get greenlit, kids in Steam Community certainly love their zombies and Minecraft.
A popular LP'er gives his first impressions of this game.

Eh. I guess it's "more graphically impressive" from a technical standpoint, but I don't find it to be a better looking game than Minecraft was. Minecraft's blocky tools, characters, and world all fit together into a cohesive aesthetic, but 7 Days' high-poly weapons, items, and enemies clash with the blocky world in a way that is not pleasant to look at, imo.
The gameplay itself looks decent though.

Don't get me wrong, I love minecraft's visual style. And I agree 7 Days' combo of high-resolution & high-poly models seem slightly at-odds with the world, though it's interesting how they are melding the two. I think one of their stretch goals is to make the voxel-based world less blocky/without blocks, which I would be greatly interested in knowing how they would accomplish that.
I really like the first impressions video that Eva linked to, as it showcases all the game's core features and ideas fairly well.
It would also seem that they are well on the way to being funded. The various youtube videos and greelight exposure boosted it by about 100k in the last week alone.

They note that they plan to implement all of those listed features eventually. Hitting the respective stretch goals will just speed up their implementation.
Also everyone needs to remember that the game is in pre-alpha, so obviously anything and everything can be subject to change.

Looks like they have a decent chance to make their 2nd stretch goal with about 5 days to go. I actually upped my pledge from the $15 to the $25 level, just to get beta access coming up in October already. I do love a good zombie game. This one might actually get released before DayZ standalone.

Well, these guys knocked their Kickstarter out of the park. Funded 500k+ with an initial goal of only 200K. Hit all 6 of their stretch goals too. Looking forward to checking out the beta of this in October sometime.

The most exciting goals are flat landscapes for increased immersion;
Randomised world generation for increased replayability;
Increased world creation options;
Occulus Rift support
