Hey, not so long ago (well, actually it was now I think about it) people of many ages thought it was a great wheeze to strap very expensive wheels to your feet with no brakes on them for supposed recreation.
At least here you're not moving without explicit nerve instructions and the ground is somewhat padded (in places)

Though this was about the nude gyms in Spain......
Mind sharing a link? I've never heard of such a thing, but would totally encourage it.

Don't be dense, this seems essentially like any extreme sport in that there is going to be an extra large dose of pain at the start of the learning curve, especially if you didn't start young.
Well, I most certainly don't expect an overweight thirty year old who hasn't engaged in serious physical activity in years to start doing back-flips and running on walls on day one.

If you are looking for something to gawk at, I strongly discourage you from looking there.

Freerunning is fun, but like with oh-so-many sports people look at these kind of videos, get excited and start it to only quit it, because the first months is repeating small stuff and working on balance, strength and flexibility.
Besides, these academis are fun and all and I'd love to jump around a bit, but freerunning is best done in urban areas, because that's the whole point: turning the enviroment into a tool. In these academies everything is designed for it, which makes it not as interesting.

What i don't get about freerunning is that they say it's the most efficient way ot move. Then why the fuck to do they do all those unnecessary flips? It's pretty impressing to look at, but not very efficient.

Injury is a hazard that comes with any physical activity.
My post was a continuation of Ghostly's, if that's helpful

Damn you sonsabitches that heal fast. When I rip something it takes months to heal. I'm not shitting. Just wait till you turn 50. April. That was when I first noticed my elbow was out of whack. Fuck getting old. But you know what? I figure fuck yourself permanent. Go down hard. America. Fuck yeah.

Well, if we're being technical, the running/vaulting/climbing is the freerunning, and the superfluous flips and such are all tricking. It's fairly reasonable that someone into one would enjoy the other, and they mix them up a bit.

If we're really being technical, the flips or other superfluous moves off obstacles should be classified as free running, while claims to efficiency of movement usually fall under the heading of parkour, of which a fraction is on display.
Tricking is something else entirely, usually consisting of people doing gainers and corkscrews on a sprung floor or grass without regard for surroundings.
*edit: damn took too long, was replying to Minigan, lol @ how eerily similar our posts are

Funny thing is some of the less spectacular moves they do look like the most difficult.
That corkscrew thing that buddy does at 1:06 would be difficult as hell. and the front flip off the vaulting bar going backwards at 1:23. how??
