Haven't fired this thing up yet. Still in the last phase of dealing w/The Many. Anyway, is this thing at all playable at the 'Realistic' level?

Very much so. The difficulty levels increase the amount of damage you take. That's about it. But "Realistic" in DX doesn't compare to "Expert" in Thief (or, I assume, the equivalent in SS2).

TY. Hope I enjoy this as much as I've enjoyed SS2.

It's all about damage. If a terrorist shoots you in the head at "Realistic", your'e dead. Period. If you get shot in the head at "Easy", you just scratch the wound and shoot back.

In 'realistic' you are in fact more vulnerable than a grunt trooper. In the cathedral level I shot a trooper in the back of the head with the sniper rifle (can't remember my skill level). He turned around and shot me in the chest, killing me instantly. I reloaded and tried again, with the same results.

That happened to me several times just on hard. Really, if you're planning to play Deus Ex as more of a sneaker style, than Realistic shouldn't be all that much harder than easy, but if you're doing the game as more of a soldier, than realistic is much harder.

I can't remember what I played it on, but I know it was impossible to do any strafe, run, jump, and fire. I think that is the engine, though. I was having trouble understanding it at first, so I might have played it on the medium setting. I also played Thief on easy, so I'm a wuss. I would be happy to play DX2 and Thief 3 on expert levels, but only if they use a different engine, like Half-Life or something. I don't really like hte physics of either world when it comes to combat.

Thx to all for the info. Sneaker, Sniper, Soldier.....some experimentation seems to be required.
