I get surprised this morning watching a video in gametrailers.com about the game Pandora: Overture, it reminds me to the gameplay we like in the thief series.
As they say in they web "Penumbra: Overture is a first person adventure game which focuses on story, immersion and puzzles. Instead of using violence to progress the player has to use his/her wits to guide Philip on his quest to unravel the past. Played from a first person viewpoint, Penumbra is very different from other adventure games. Not only is it powered by a 3D engine utilising cutting edge technology, it also has an advanced physics system which allow for a never before seen environment interaction. The player can open drawers, pull levers, pick up objects and more using natural mouse movements creating a highly interactive and immersive game world."
I think a mod of this game based on the Thief world will give the darkness Garret ever needs.

Now I'm playing the demo and find it very very interesting. Maybe the power of the scene may do something awesome with that game.

Shows some promise as a game. I will definitely check it out later.

FYI, there is already a mod deep into development called "The Dark Mod" which uses the Doom 3 Engine.
Check it out here:

Took over an hour... not bad, but I had wagered 30 minutes.

:) Hey, we didn't have anything to do with it at least! Heh. Penumbra wouldn't be my first choice for making a Thief Mod anyway. I played it, and asked the devs what their editor was like...well, there isn't an editor. You create your levels in a 3D app, and the rest is done by hand coding or some such thing. Not exactly user friendly.

The playable preview they had a few months ago had really small levels but I'm not sure about the official release. Also the levels were extremely blocky.

Digi was only implying that the Dark Mod is well known.

Penumbra looked quite nice as a horro game to me. I downloaded the demo a few months ago, and it had a good atmosphere. But just because a game is dark, doesn't mean that it is automatically suited for Thief gameplay. In fact, even in Baldurs Gate 2 you have some very dark levels when you get down to the Drow dungeon, but I still wouldn't consider it as my first choice to implement a Thief mod. :p

But a Thief should be implemented only for games first person point of view.
I wasn't talking about the dark (but I think is great also) I get surprised with the manipulation and physics taht gives you a great feeling of being a thief.
Open drawers to look in and steal, close doors with furniture, throw items to knock out....
Of course I check the news of the Dark Mod almost every day. Should be nice they would be able to add this kind of manipulations to the mod, but sure it would be difficult.
