Seems to mean a high degree of interactivity and open endedness in the environment. Lots of act/react type stuff.
I only bring it up because I haven't seen many designers namecheck Thief the way they do. I don't profess to be a big follower of gaming these past few years but over the years I feel like I've seen bits and pieces of Thief everywhere, though its seminal influence is unconscious or unmentioned (in fairness I'm probably seeing some Goldeneye or something too). The Penumbra guy's are one of the only one's I've seen say clearly "we want to do the verisimilitude of Thief, only moreso" (and not just mean basic stealth, stealing stuff or steampunk/guys in cowls).

Am I missing something here? Isn't this the point of a mod? Or do you mean changes to the physics?
That's exactly what I am talking about, at least someone understands. Hehehe, no really, I should have made myself more clearer I guess.

Of course you will see changes in the doom 3 engine, we're doing a total conversion mod. :)

Penumbra looked quite nice as a horro game to me. I downloaded the demo a few months ago, and it had a good atmosphere. But just because a game is dark, doesn't mean that it is automatically suited for Thief gameplay.
There was lots to like with Penumbra though. The way you interact with objects, pulling draws open for example, is very natural and could be a sweet atmosphere boost in a thiefy game. There's a (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux4OwkS9ybA) video for those who havn't played the demo. Roughly speaking what happens is you frob a draw then, while holding the frob button, you move the mouse toward you to pull the draw open; sort of like Black & White, only cooler. And of course once open you can rummage around in the draw by dragging it's contents about in the same way until you find the shiny thing.

That's be nice to have that feature of manipulation. Imagine opening a door very carefully with a guard outside

Is your cheeky manner implying you've already got this ?
