This is a cool idea, though. A mage environment could especially benefit from this sort of sound, or a non-hostile Pagan area.

Good idea suggesting this, I've played with Paul's a bit in the past but never thought to use ti to make drones for Thief.

you can also slow it down without keylock and you'll end up with nice dark bassline ambient :P I don't know how to do it in Audacity though

i suggest to
record your voice
add reverb
add chorus
a bit of flanger and delay...pitch a bit everything....with stereo field( stereo only if is an ambient sound , at least in rainbow six the music there is stereo )
the haunts and apparition was made in this way.
