To make that less marginal:
Magic Carpet came out in May 1994 and featured mouse look.
It's pretty weird to see revolutionary features like that not getting attention in the press. Granted, the engine and perfect fitting art direction were pretty distracting..

Nice project if you can get it. Do a stellar job then post it for the world to see.
And I must have MGS 2,3 and 4 after reading this thread. Roll on PS3 HD remakes!

Easy on the Chinese dining there, bub. :p

All the MGS games are well worth playing, as long as you're willing to except them for the bundle of idiosyncrasies that they are. I think they're highly intelligent games in both the gameplay and narrative sense, but there is enough weirdness/intentionally counter-intuitive elements in both of those that it really turns off some people.
So after adding Torment to the schedule, I'm leaning on cutting it again: not because I don't think it'd be a great addition, but simply because I really don't want to play it again anytime soon - I've completed it three times, the last run-through less than a year ago, and if I do it again I'm just going to be totally sick of it. Of course, this isn't a very good reason to kick it out of the project, but when I'm fighting for space I might as well. Plus, I'd argue that while it's historically important for its brilliance alone, it's not particularly influential in the wider gaming sphere, meaning that I can cut it without really screwing up the project (same goes for Shenmue and a couple of others).
So either it's back to Fallout or The Longest Journey. I'm more enthusiastic about the latter, but really like the idea that Fallout came out the same year as FF7, so I can do a head-to-head comparison of the western RPG and the Japanese RPG. I could do that as a sort of preface to the FF7 chapter, though, so it's not strictly necessary. Myst is definitely in the project, which is why Monkey Island is definitely out. But I still struggle with what I'd say about TLJ from a GAME sense - the game is almost entirely linear.
Speaking of which, I did finally play and complete Silent Hill 2. Brilliant idea and aesthetic, though I honestly don't think it's a very good *game* and hesitate to include it in the project for that reason. That said, I'm already hauling ye olde Xbox to Massachusetts for MGS2, so it's in the running.
P.S. Or I could replace Torment with NOTHING and make the whole thing more manageable.

I fail to see what is highly intelligent about two portraits(rendered heads later in the series) engaging in simple dialogue for minutes(or, indeed, tens of minutes) at a time.

That's because you're Koki.

This forum is boring as shit without deth and Eva. I don't even have 1/3 of the interest in it these days.
PigLick on 1/6/2010 at 14:13
1/3 is pretty harsh, so you're saying that dethtoll and eva made up 66% of this forum content?
Koki on 2/6/2010 at 05:44
It's a "more than sum of its parts" thing
Renzatic on 2/6/2010 at 05:49
Speaking of which, what the hell happened to Deth and Eva? The only thing I know is Eva got banned...again...somehow. But Deth? What's going on there?
edit: someone tell me now! I want some gossip and drama, damnit.
