A little bit of Haunted Cathedral Prototypical (UDK version has a video!) - by Digital Nightfall

I am sure that the Dark Mod boys are cursing me for not just making this in their engine from the start. :erm:

Can someone tell me with any certainty if ASE files can be imported into the TDS engine or into the Dark Mod? I regret that the MAX file with most of the static meshes in it got lost in the shuffle of multiple formats and windows reinstalls that I had to do a few days ago, so all that's left are the ASE exports. The building itself probably would be able to be exported or imported into any other game engine, but I'd like to know if at least the static meshes would be.
TDS only supports some funky Max 5.1 format. To get them in there, you'd probably have to convert them to .obj files and send them to one of the big T3 guys. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help you out, considering how awesome your work is.
As for TDM, you're about ready to roll. D3 supports .ASE and .LWO files natively. Once you whip up the proper directory structure and get your textures in place, you're golden.

I'm going to call it done. Some random notes...
The hammer icon was inspired by the one I saw in <a href=http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1813886#post1813886>Wille's screenshots, here</a>. I liked it so much I decided to make my own!
I didn't take many screenshots, but the interiors of the blocks to the northeast, northwest, and west, all have interiors, though little more than empty rooms. There really wasn't anything to take screenshots of, and I think you can tell from the exterior shots that there are interiors... there's just nothing in them. The northwest block does have the entryway to cloister (you can see it from the outside, though the exterior walls are not in place) and a stair up (but not down, as I am not doing the basement) as well as the vault (which I made as more of a freestanding metal box than a room) and soforth.
The platform you need to use to each The Eye is there, and the only asymmetrical thing in the sanctuary. I was tempted to keep the symmetry, but remembered that a good way to call attention to a feature is to make one exception to it.
I had fun with all of those stained glass windows, especially the one with the pouring vat over the hammer, with the anvil below. That took about three hours to put together.
Not counting the time it took to learn 3dsmax and UnrealEd, this took ten days to make. Now, who wants the files? I hope someone can do something cool with it. :thumb:

As for the entrance, the thing that's making me want to change it the most is ... where do you put the four talismans? :laff:
A very important consideration, to be sure

Those are supposed to be alcove for statues, not windows, in case anyone was wondering. Same goes for the three in the front.
I was wondering what was going on there, thanks for the info. Great start, btw!

Considering I like to pretend I'm an artistic type who knows what he's doing, I've got to criticize one thing: your texture work. The geometry work and architecture is amazing, but you need some texture variety to really bring it to life. Throw a few brick walls in there, some tiled floors, some reliefs, or anything else you can think of to break up the monotony.
Right now it looks like it's been carved from a solid piece of stone. If that's the look you're going for, then you've succeeded. But if you want it to compare to the old Haunted Cathedral, you need a little more in there.

I'm also not going to be doing any texturing... because I want this to be 100% from-scratch my work, and I don't want to split myself three ways. I'm concentrating on the shapes and forms and spaces, not surface details.
Great job, Digi! This place is unbelievable!!
Your cathedral made it into part of my dream last night. I was driving around Houston (I don't drive) stopping at all the computer shops. I saw your place and knocked at the door which made a sound like a sword hitting stone. I was looking for spare IRQs (which I was pronouncing 'urks') for sale. The cloaked man in black who answered the door invited me inside while he went to get me some.:o:laff:
I really shouldn't go directly to bed after reading the forums or playing Thief. :cheeky:

There's another that's a flyby of the outside, but for some reason youtube is still "processing" it.
Oh, and if the lack of texturing bothered your "I must assert myself by saying something in critique" nerve center, you may want to skip this video. ;)
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oimdKpFSsxs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oimdKpFSsxs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed>
Whatcha know, the embed works...
Witness my horrible "how do I control this thing?" moments and getting stuck on door frames! Serves me right for making things normal sizes for normal humans in the Unreal engine. :P Also, the music doesn't play... boo.

Nah. I've got it out of my system. Good to go here.
Textures or no, the thing is slick. I like it. :thumb:
