I traced the cause of the slow downs to the fireplacesmoke and steampuffspout effects. They have been removed with the exception of one or two, and now the FM runs without slow downs. I tested it three times each time for over one hour.
I'll send it to thiefmissions.com as soon as Jason comes back from vacation.

I found Jeni's new house at the very end of town (with the nice lawn under the balcony out hte back, right?) But where exactly am I suppose to drop the ring and letter for the objective to check off?

There are several places. You can toss it in the fire at the bakery, or toss it into the cauldron in the blacksmith's shop, or toss it into the stove in the house near the bell tower.

Very fun mission, John. Can't believe it took me a few months to get around to it. Only found three secrets first time through, ~3800 loot, but since I was ghosting, I'm satisfied. Really nice map; every bit played like a puzzle.

Well Ronnie, I think you should be satisfied. I ghosted it, too, and I finished with ghost intact in around 4 hours, and I was aghast that I got only 2648 loot and 0 of 7 secrets!:eek: I normally do much better than that, and I felt that I had been everywhere and seen everything. How wrong I was.
OK, so I came back in, BJ'ed all the AI, including burricks, gassed the hard hat guard, searched a lot harder, and with the aid of all the spoilers here I "got" all seven of the secrets. But still only 4655 / 5512 loot.
Great mission John. As Nightwalker said, lots of nooks and crannies. It is certainly one of the most fun city missions I have explored, and some of the ghosting action is pretty good, too. It kept me entertained for about a week (9:46 game time, five evenings). Thanks! :D
