I know that this subject has been kicked around variously before, but I'm just wondering -- regardless of what Thief 4 will be -- if anyone else out there would have been at least "open" to a new Thief game set in modern times?
So would you have liked to have at least seen a modern Thief game, or give such a game a chance, either now or in the future?
And before anyone gets the wrong idea, yes, I will love another game with Garrett, one set in the Thief universe that we all know and enjoy. But, I also believe that Garrett's story has been told better through FMs over the years than any game a studio could possibly come up with at this moment in time. It's not like Hitman, who's story is limited to what the developers come up with. The community has explored, and continues to do so, the character of Garrett, the City, and the surrounding universe to the point that we know it better than the people developing the new game! So, to me at least, I think a continuation of Garrett's universe could be a disservice to the fans, in the end.

obv not a classic thief game, but it would be a good game in its own right i think. i dont think there are any games about modern thiefs, correct me if im wrong

I'd be interested in how they would do it.
Imo to much technology pretty much kills the romantic notion of a thief, it would probably be some
kind of Mission Impossible or something !

Related to what Chiron said above, I'd be interested if there was a way too do it where all of Garrett's abilities didn't rely on electronic gadgets and tools for stealth. I'm sure it's possible, it comes down to whether a developer wants to go that route or not.

I'd like to see it too...
But as stated above there are issues.
Not only tech but say a thief in the us. Things are pretty spread out, so do you have a car? Do you drive a box truck to the heist..
Also, most places aren't going to have alot of gold trinkets, you'd have to lift TV's, I-pods...
I think alot of what makes Thief work so well is not only time but location. Convienantly really old cities are tight and twisty...great way to limit players movement without being obvious.
Left4Dead works pretty good for wide open spaces and modern cities (in US) but there's also justifiable/interesting reasons to block the player in. It's post apocoplyptic zombie workd so there are military barracade, blown up bridges, car jams, sewers.
How/why would you limit a thiefs space in a map. Even GTA had islands to limit travel, but until you opened a new area you had that big invisible wall action 'CAN'T GO HERE'

Modern thief would be Splinter Cell with the addition of stealing. It would definitely work if done well, i.e. not too much xbox360-fied, like the most recent utter crap called "Splinter Cell Conviction". I could also imagine, the game would be much more about robbing a certain item like a painting instead of millions of gadgets and coins, and about planning the whole heist, much like the PC classic "The Clue", which was pretty cool... :)
