So, tonight I was playing CoD:MW2, and had a pretty unexpected interaction with a cheater.
This guy with a rather hate-oriented handle was using an aimbot blatantly for a couple of rounds, and the other guys were quick to notice. But I was a bit under the influence, so it took me a while to understand what was going on. Anyway, the guy got pelted with all kinds of insults by the other guys, needless to say.
So the next round when I finally caught on, I asked him, "Hey dude, can you turn off your cheat for one round so that we can play? One round." Then the guy actually complied, and at the end of the round said that he only did it because I asked him nicely.
That got me thinking about the general state of cyberculture as of late. I sense a lot of animosity in online gaming. Hostility is the norm, apparently. I personally think that is an issue we have to address.
(edit) I've got to admit I was in serious need for some chill pills, myself...

Too bad there's no longer the option for an admin to kick and ban cheaters. Goddammit IW, VAC was designed to work alongside admins. Fucking P2P hosting.

Yeah man it's too fucking goddamned bad you can't kick these mutherfuckers th fuck out on their fucking asses, the stupid asshole douchebag fucking fucks, eh, FFS, Fucking-A, Yeah!...
That's what the OP was getting at, right?

If someone is ruining your experience by cheating then they deserve abuse, TBH. If you act like a prick you shouldn't expect people to respond civilly.
There are situations where people are unfairly abused though. Eg when someone is new to a game. Remember, we were all newbies at some point. I recall when I started playing TF2 I didn't know about the Medic's overcharge ability, I would get abused for not using it. It was until some time later that I encountered a helpful person who told me how to activate it.
People being sore losers is another sticking point. God forbid a person actually have some skill at a game.

That's like asking dethtoll to be rational for one thread so we can have a discussion. One thread.

I was playing a round of MW2 on 360 this morning, joined a random team game and half the players had [BNP], [PEDO] and [PAEDO] clan tags
What's that shit all about

that's the crowd you roll with mang
When I see cheating and no way to kick or votekicks not doing the job I just log out and go play elsewhere. Everyone should do it then the cheats will soon find that they have no one to play with. Of course if you really care about XP and so on this could affect you but meh.

I know you have your heart in the right place, but contrary to GBM's community policing policy working fairly well in these forums, it probably wouldn't be nearly as effective on Xbox Live and its equals.

Depends if you do it en masse. We used to do it on UT2004 and Red Orchestra mod. Insurgency mod for HL2 too. Seemed effective in that I ended up never playing with cheaters/dicks. But then the community was smaller and perhaps with the huge numbers playing now it won't help.
