Hey, cool! Glad you guys got it to work. I was thinking the same thing, though: Modern Warfare 2's install base is astronomical, so YMMV.

People being sore losers is another sticking point. God forbid a person actually have some skill at a game.
A friend of mine and I, on multiple separate occasions (we almost never play together) have been banned from servers OVER AND OVER AND OVER because some screaming clan fag couldn't handle losing. Like the guy who got so pissed at my (red) team he started noclipping into our spawn to kill us, red scored five wins anyway, and suddenly red team disappears one by one as he bans us all.
That's actually a frighteningly common occurance.
But my favourite recent moment was when I got bored and hopped on a random low-population 2fort, nobody's really doing anything constructive so I decide to practice my combat engie tactics a bit. I work my way to the top of blue (enemy) team's spiral, and leave a level 1 sentry in the small room, then head downstairs. Sentry murders a couple guys, third guy learns from his buddies' mistake and manages to destroy it, which is fine, because I'm heading out the long and I leave another level 1 SG to cover my escape. He attempts to follow me and gets murdered by the sentry gun. I take the int home and score the point, and am immediately kicked off the server. I get back on and ask why I was kicked. "We think you're hacking but we can't be sure," was the response. I was like uhhhhhhhhhhhhh, how the fuck am I hacking? "You scored as an engineer, engies aren't designed for that." So I switch to heavy, promptly score the intelligence twice (murdering people/destroying teleporters on the way in and out) and say "Maybe if you actually bothered to place defenses in someplace other than my team's sewers you wouldn't have this problem."

You must be a magnet dethtoll because although I've encountered idiots in MP games (who hasn't?) you seem to have a tale for every game and you used to harp on about idiots in L4D when I never found any.
Hmmm. Maybe its Euro vs US gamers?

This is why when I'm playing MW2 on xbox live, I've stopped shouting into my headset DIE! MOTHERFUCKERS! DIE! and then laughing maniacally as I hose down the n00bs with my machine gun.

The majority of my TF2 issues have been with clan fags. Most pub players range between worthless and competent, which is nothing new and I can generally play normally. Making someone ragequit is common, like when I scored 10 kills in one life on one guy who just fucking sucked. The real problem stems from power mad clan fags with admin rights. The number of servers I've been banned from are far outnumbered by the servers I haven't, though, and when I do get banned, it's usually for such a stupidly hilarious reason that I can't bring myself to be angry about it.
Left4Dead, though... fuck that game.

Speaking of hackers.... anyone here play Combat Arms?
A few of my college friends got me to start playing it with them in small lan parties (3vs3). After a few get togethers, I decided to check out the game online with other people.
Holy. Shit. There is virtually no cheat protection at all. You know how people get pissed and exaggarate stuff like "EVERY SINGLE SEVER I GO TO HAS HACKERS?" or some stupid shit like that? Well... I am not exaggerating. On average I need to join 4-5 serves until I find out WITHOUT hackers. And even then, it's only a matter of five minutes before a hacker joins.
And those aren't your typical hacks. None of that aimbot or noclip kiddy stuff. These guys are hardcore - they sit in a corner somewhere, press a button and EVERYONE on the opposite team dies as soon as they spawn. No joke. Over and over and over, while the hacker racks up kills. And there's absolutely nothing you can do about it, you can't even leave spawn.
Nothing, of course, because this game is the very anti-thesis of "power to the players." I can't even call a vote-kick on a hacker because my in-game rank isn't high enough (i.e. I haven't played for 50 hours yet so I don't get any say). But even if someone higher up decides to call a vote it doesn't matter - 90% of the hackers also have an anti-kick, which means that even when the votekick passes, they dont end up getting kicked.
I've never seen an online game so broken when it comes to handling cheaters... jesus.

Well it is free isn't it? I suppose the makers just put it out there without working on any anti-cheat systems. If its really that bad don't play it. I wouldn't.
Are you an asshole in game or something detholl, because I've never played with total idiots in L4D. Sure there people who are selfish with health and who run ahead or don't really contribute, but by necessity they have to team play a bit or they are dead themselves.

I generally don't say much in multiplayer games, Left4Dead included. My microphone is a Brujeria album maker so I'm forced to rely on text, and I'm generally polite. But by and large most of the servers I join are composed of complete dickasses. I'm sorry, but bots stay with the group, bots don't waste molotovs, bots don't purpousely teamkill, bots don't kick you off for not having all the achievements... I've had some good times on survival servers, though. I think the futility of it all breeds a slightly different mindset.
One of my favourite moments was the TF2 clan kid who got autokickbanned from his own server for flooding the text chat because he could not shut up about his belief that my team was hacking. I'm sure the server admin fixed that later but it was funny at the time.

I've run into more than a few complete idiots in L4D, though that may be because of the Xbox version. I've seen people who refuse to help up wounded friends, insist on backtrackign halfway through the map, shooting around at the air randomly DURING a tank fight, and various other idiocy. Interestingly enough, I've run into a decent number of people with "420" in their names (about five or so) each of whom is among the stupidest people I've ever encountered in an online game. I guess its true that pot makes you stupid.

this is why a lan with friends is always superior to online with randoms. (if you have enough like-minded friends anyway)
