Well there you go. If I saw someone with names like that I'd automatically think they were a dick trying to get a reaction and I can see how it would colour any further interaction you're going to have. If you log on and get a myg0t tag wtf are you going to think?
They say you make your own luck. Think about it.

Except I stopped doing that long before Left4Dead came out. I almost exclusively use "WINNERS DON'T USE DRUGS" now. And in any case I don't think most people really care what kind of playername a person has so long as they're not retarded. Sure, we'll make fun of an idiot after the fact- "hurr hurr look at SMOAKWEIDERYDAY420, what a big baby clan fag" but if he's a competent player, who gives a shit? Same goes with my shock site player names. I had SWAP.AVI up for a while once, and someone was like "I SAW THAT VIDEO AND THREW UP FOR A WEEK" but otherwise nobody cared.
For a while I had "Dot on the Sentry." Storytime: 2fort. There was this guy who kept screaming that a sniper on the other team was using a dot taped to the monitor (like he could possibly know.) He was like "I'm not usually one to scream hax every time I get killed but there's a difference between skill and advantage." He wouldn't shut up about it, so at one point the other guy, who had switched to engineer, says "well you know a dot isn't really helping me as an engineer". This is after the screamer had been slaughtered 5 times in a row by the accused's sentry gun. Kid's like,"The dot is on your sentry. Take it off."
Half the server was like "that doesn't even fucking make sense!"
I laughed my ass off, immediately changed my name to Dot on the Sentry, and said I was keeping it that way forever. The kid who was screaming about dots promptly left.

Maybe I am thick, but what is a dot taped to the screen and what advantage would it have?

Whenever you don't have an aiming reticle, like if you're using a sniper rifle but not zoomed in, or if you're playing one of those "realistic" games, put some tape on your monitor with a dot in the middle and you've got an instant home-made crosshair. It's a cheap, DIY, undetectable method of cheating.

and it works really well in counter-strike...

I guess it comes from my not having any desire to cheat. I am amazed by some people's ability to think so far outside of the box for such petty things. Thanks for the reply, btw.

People still play online games that aren't Valve?
That is funny.

If you ever come across an LCD screen with a dead pixel at the centre, you could probably sell it to such people for a tidy sum. ;)

Can't say I've had anything like that happen in TF2, I've had a pretty good time with it by and large. Plenty of idiots who don't play as a team, but very few flaming tards. One exception.....lets just say that I actually have the Pryo achievement you get for making somebody ragequit.
