I just threw up every single thing I ate today.
Unpacking my laptop from a recent trip, I pulled my T2 CD out of the CD pouch on the inside pocket of the computer bag. It was cracked completely in half. No seriously, I typed that correctly. COMPLETELY IN FUCKING HALF. It's the orange disc from the original T2 release in the hexagonal box.
Yeah. I know.
For the first time since the day of release, I'm without a means to play Thief 2, screw with DromEd, PLAY FAN MISSIONS.
I spent half an hour wandering aimlessly around my house in dismay. My wife called and thought I was drunk because I couldn't form coherent sentences. My 6 year old wanted to know if he should call 911.
I can't even force myself to go on e-bay or amazon to see if a replacement exists. I'm having visions of myself gearing up for Black Frog or the next Rockburg with a blue disc from some company in Sweden who've slapped their crappy logo across it...
I can't even complete that because I'm starting to have a panic attack.
WHY GOD WHY? :( :( :(

Happened to me too about a year or so ago. My T2 game CD shattered in my CD drive. Needless to say, that drive died... And in a fit of rage I smashed the drive with a sledgehammer, as would be befitting such an obvious subversion of proper design!
Thank god for backup iso's! Also, Thief should work with any CD of the same game, so no need to worry about having to re-install, methinks.

Same thing here, except the edge of the hole in the middle cracked off, with me. As a result the drive would not recognise it had a disk in it. I was in shock for a bit as well. I now have two copies, just in case.
Fett I am lowering the flag to half mast and saluting with the stiffest of upper lips at your loss. Hope you can replace it soon and carry on Thief-ish activities.
Good luck Old Bean.:thumb:

I'd like to thank all of you who have offered your condolences both in this thread and in PM during this very difficult time for I and my family. As you can imagine, we are still in shock, trying to begin the grieving process, and cherishing the many wonderful memories we had with our T2 disc.
I know it is in a better place now, free from the threat of console games and rumors of T4. Please continue to remember us during this time of loss. I will be posting information for the memorial service as soon as all extended family members have been notified, and arrangements can be made.

*Gasp* Do you have a problem with Sweden?!
Seriously though, that sucks finding your CD like that... reminds me of the one time I dropped a game disk onto the floor when I was a kid. It had a large crack in it but young and stupid as I was at the time, I decided to put it in the CD-drive anyway and see if it worked.
Boy, was that
stupid. The disk EXPLODED in my CD-drive and we had to leave the computer in for reparation... and buy a new drive.

How the hell did that happen? Was the CD just so old that it fell apart in your drive after thousands of hot hours spinning around in the drive? We tend to assume that CDs and DVDs are everlasting, but they most definitely have lifespans.
