I laughed and I cried, I've done both. I'm sorry. Same thing happened to me, a LONG time ago. fett man, what the hell are you thinking NOT having a back-up!?? Every taffer should have a back-up copy. You've been around forever man, its been discussed, how can you NOT have a back-up! I'm shocked, I'm dismayed, right that wrong man! I am so disappointed in you. :erg: Taffers to the rescue around here, thank god. Soon, your world will be whole once more. In the mean time, have a drink tonight to console yourself. Again, I am SOO sorry for your loss. :(

My condolences, fett.
It will inevitably happen to my own T2 CD one day. I will be sad to see it go, but CDs were never meant to outlive us. C'est la Vie, with a heavy sigh.

You should enshrine it like the fucking Liberty Bell ...
Though the outer vessel may crack, the inner spirit lives on.

How the hell did that happen? Was the CD just so old that it fell apart in your drive after thousands of hot hours spinning around in the drive? We tend to assume that CDs and DVDs are everlasting, but they most definitely have lifespans.
Yeah, it was fairly old. It just kinda... Shattered. Like I said, the abomination of design that was that accursed CD drive felt my wrath soon after. Never shall it know the majesty of the Builder's Paradise for it's sins!

My condolences for the CD.:(
But it's somewhat odd that it just snapped on it's own like that. That has never happened to any of my CDs or DVDs.

At a time like this, there are so many "should have's" "would have's" and "could have's" that go through a person's mind. Why wasn't I using a no cd fix? Why hadn't I made a backup? Why did I take it with me on vacation in its fragile, aged state? How did it feel when I removed it from my desktop rig for a cheap replay of Half-life 2?
So many regrets.
I've spent several days in seclusion. It's hard to eat, but I know I have to keep my strength up, for my family right now, if not for myself. The memorial service will be on Monday, when the disc will be framed along with the original keyboard glossy map.
Let this serve as a reminder to all of us to cherish the time we have with our Thief discs. Treat them with care, and be sensitive to their needs in this, the winter of their lives. Spend time with them, absorb all that they have to offer, and pass it on to your children, so that their legacy will not die with them.
Thank you all for your kind words. We're asking that any gifts or donations be sent to Eidos Montreal, along with polite request to refrain from developing Thief 4. I know my T2 disc would like this, and would be happy that its passing could be part of something good in this world.

One werd........ no cdfix. Then retire the disks. Keep that strength up man, you'll need it when you return to thief, and you will. Oh yes.....you will. Lesson learned for everyone.

This may come off as me being a jerk or something, but are you being serious fett? (i mean with the whole treating it like a human died thing.)
