A new... not quite FM?

I just made a gameboy game for a game jam, and it's very loosely inspired by The Violent End of Duncan Melveine - you're hired to find a killer and identify them in a similar way to that FM:

It's essentially an exploratory platformer... murder mystery. No combat (I made it in 3 days), just collecting clues and making an accusation.

Pressing start will bring up your objectives, pressing select will bring up notes on each suspect that are automatically updated as you find clues.

You can play it at (https://jmkdev.itch.io/noble-blood) right in your browser or you can download the .GBC file if you have an emulator you prefer.

I realize not everyone would be into this; I'll keep it off the FM forum if that's preferred.

I've played it a bit in browser mode, and I have to say it's actually pretty good !
I can feel the Thief atmosphere a lot :)

I'll give it a real shot on GBC emulator with a pad because it's difficult to play it on keyboard...

Any chance this isn't compatible with Opera browser? I couldn't play it on PC.
Worked fine from my smartphone's browser. Anyways. Thank you for creating and showing this to us :thumb:

It should work on Opera technically - I'd check your security settings, though I don't use it myself.

Interestingly enabling third party cookies made the game itself available.
However I couldn't get past the introductory screen, the little window reacted to pressing ENTER to press the New Game button, but after that it does not react to any keyboard command I tried. Maybe there's some compatibility issue after all, because I don't see the game boy console buttons anywhere, which were available when I opened the game from my phone's browser. (and my keyboard seemingly fails to work too)

The B/A buttons should be mapped to X/Z, select should be shift. And start enter.

The text can be advanced by pressing A, and once in game select brings up your notes and start goes to the Objectives screen.

It actually worked, so the joke's on me :)
Anyways I'd have to learn to read and process the information, as now I discover the controls are written in the description which I've supposedly read before. Controls were much smoother on PC than on phone (despite that on Hungarian keyboard Y and Z replace each other) :cheeky:

I clicked on this thread hoping to find a new FM regardless of what the title says. To be honest, even though it seems like a neat idea, it doesn't really belong in the Thief FM Forum. Hopefully a MOD can move it to a more appropriate forum.
