Fidcall, I só think this is a very great mission pack:thumb: and it's your first??? WOW! :thumb:
My suggestion to you now would be: Give it another round .... let it be betatested for a bit an then set it up again on this forum to play!!! :thumb:
For me: It's such a great game, all four parts of it, but I get stuck a lot, with a lot of non-Taffing-stuff, if you know what I mean.
I really believe this whole package has a great potential :thumb: :thumb:
but it's not much fun playing alltogether, since Í get really, REALLY stuck at places I normally don't get stuck.
And believe me: I TRIED A LOT!!!
Is there a walkthrough BTW???
Would you consider a rewrite then?
I'll be eager to betatest!

Gloria, no offense, but just because you are stuck on one spot hardly means the entire campaign needs to be betatested and "rewritten." :p

I symphasise. Quite a few players got stuck here and there. Quite a lot didn't though. I agonized over those missions to make them as playable as possible without dumbing them down so much that they were not a challenge. The more complex a mission then the more there is to go wrong.
Gloria, it sounds like you previously played all four missions. Did you finish them? So what specifically are the sticking points? I thought most problems were that players didn't figure out what to do but these forums or the walkthrough solve that.
The problem with a rewrite is time. It would not be easy. I'm currently writing three Dark Mod missions plus other Dark Mod work including documenting stuff and tutorials to make it easier for others to make future missions so you taffers can enjoy more and more!

This has nothing to do with the thread, but yours was the first FM I played, I suppose because I liked the name. It was a wonderful mission, I played it not knowing that this forum existed. Due to one of those "impossible puzzles" I googled my question and discovered this wonderful community. So, I owe you much more than thanks and every time I have to stack crates to do an impossible leap I think of you.

Thanks mabsy - it's much more fun sharing your thiefy experiences with the group. I get stuck myself lots of times. :)

I get it Fidcall, I see what you mean.
Yes, I once played the series before, but I can't remember if I got stuck at that point in mission 2.
Brethren, I didn't just got stuck at one spot! :nono: There were several.
I'm not offended, but you must know that I'm not a new Taffer in the Thief world. I played the OM's from the start and the FM's since they started to come out, I believe.
So I consider myself a rather trained Thiefplayer.:ebil:
I just meant that, because the series are made so ingenious well, it wouldn't hurt to make them a bit more "Thieflike" to play. I don't know how to put it.
Nót easier, just more accessable.
I'd like to play the series again. I probably do it too and maybe I can beat this spot this time around. Who knows ....
Right now a testing"job" is waiting for me.
Off I go :)

That brings up a good question: What is your definition of "thief-like" game play? I'm working on a mission where you can make choices--some of which will pay off and further the storyline, others won't. And, there are spots in which I want you to get stuck and have to figure out what to do next--yet, too me, the mission is very simple and can be completed in a straight foreward manner in little time. Now to me, that is Thief-like gameplay. But, I'm curious what others may... well, I guess the correct quesion is "expect"?
As far as Fidcal's mission goes, it's one of my all-time favorites.

Thanks Queue. To me, Bafford is the core Thief style mission but only the core - the original missions extended to Lost City type adventure and Undead Bonehoard.
Or we might not be talking about thief-style as much as staying within the parameters of popular gameplay. All frob distances set at the default 7 foot; no wriggling into or through tight corners; no difficult climbing and jumping; easy readables with direct instructions; not too much complexity; no unexpected innovation; no variation from the expected.

I spotted the old thread recently, and looked up The Night Watch. Played it ages ago, It's great going back to really good old FMs and seeing if you can 'do better'.
I think the best 'thiefy' games have a really engaging story, and complications that arise within the level: Something LOTS of the FM writers out there are good at
