It's not from Thief, but the video shows an actual steam powered spider with a nice smooth motion. You can download the drawings and the program to view the machine in 3D. It's fun to take it apart and look at individual components.

The most Thiefy of them is near the bottom. It's the "bicycle with no wheels". Very primitive, clanky, clockwork mechanism. Would look nice with a guard in it.
