I tried fm select...didn't like the interface. Darkloader has worked for me for 15 years.
I mean it gives me the name, size, date, a comments sections for future reference and I can see the mission's txt file which gives me the scoop on who made it and what it's about.

If you know where to look, FMSel can give you all of this information as well, although you have to fiddle around with the interface a lot. And the date may only be correct if the author used an fm.ini file in his mission, I think.
I agree, however, that FMSel's interface often feels "clumsy" to me, but that's after using Darkloader for 16 years. FMSel's interface could use a litte bit of face lifting, though. And maybe that script thing Brethren wrote about could be adressed.
Darkloader will, however, still be in use by me for a while, since I have several T1 and T2 missions which I started to play without NewDark, and I'd rather finish it with T2 v1.18 than risking to lose my savegames or receiving weird errors. (Thief alone can be weird enough at times...:p)

Only through FMsel can you play nearly 30 missions that have been 'repaired' with Voodoo's and Unna's superb dml fixes, sometimes being able to play missions through to the very end for the very first time, such as Oblivion. :thumb:

Using FMsel isn't required for DML fixes to work. It probably makes applying them much easier, though.

I thought they were only usable with FMsel as you do not want them to go into your main Thief folder. Do they work if you pop them into the mission zip file and then use darkloader? And if you use them this way is there a risk that they may overwrite any dml's that you already have in your main Thief folder?

I assumed you could put them in the mission ZIP, but you're probably right, they could conflict with DMLs in your main folder that way I suppose. Voodoo or someone more knowledgeable would have to confirm. But my main point wasn't to say that you should use Darkloader to play the DML fixed missions, only that it was possible, meaning that FMsel isn't directly involved or required for DMLs to work, they're loaded by the engine itself.

It was from Voodoo that I understood that you should only use dml's with FMsel but as he is a big fan of FMsel you wouldn't expect him to say otherwise.

I'm not sure whether darkloder loads the dmls if they are in the FM root - I believe they need to be in a valid modpath/fmpath. and darkloader won't create those, afaik.

less issues running missions with fmsel, will always have a special place for darkloader, but its days as it is now are over, basically a back up
