While I really liked TDS for it's atmopshere and other qualities, there are some absurd gameplay limitations that tend to ruin the whole experience. Like when an NPC is sitting, no blackjack or dagger will work on him with one hit, only arrows. Or if the NPC is aware of your presense, there is no way to blackjack him or stab with the dagger. You have to wait until he/she/it will think that you escaped and calm down, only then you can do your dirty tricks.
Seriously, the hell? In T1/2 you could knock them out no matter what they thought. So is there any way or mod to fix these stupid limitations?

I don't know, I remember being able to stab alerted NPCs- blackjacking, not so much.

Not true. In T1/2 you cannot knock out an armed AI if they're at alert level 3 (i.e., have seen you and are pursuing). One exception to that rule which works sometimes is to run into deep shadow, and lean forward and blackjack them as they get within range, but that's probably an engine bug more than by design.

It's actually very easy to do once you get the hang of it and works way more often than not. It's a cheap tactic that has served me well from time to time.

Indeed this is how I handle most persuits, just run to a dark spot, turn around, lean forward, and POW, they're out like a light!

Hop 'n' bop. I think it's as designed - the guard merely has to be unaware of your exact position for BJing to work - therefore running behind them in shadow and bopping them before they can turn around works.

In T3 I found that sitting AI could be blackjacked. I think I found it easiest to crouch beforehand.

I succeeded in blackjacking sitting people in TDS too - but only a few times... My attempts at doing so always act quite arbitrary - I'm usualy unsuccesful, but sometimes, it works. I'll have to find a reliable tactic for it. I'll try your's and see, if it works regularly and can be trusted.

Can't really think of any situation where you need to worry about knocking out sitting characters. Usually its easier just to sneak past them or else hide in shadows fire a noisemaker arrow,or make some noise, then when they settle down and start walking back then clout 'em one.
The worst ones for me was those standing against a wall. On the Museum mission theres a few (like the one guarding the special loot painting) who are awkward to get at.

I don't know, this never bothered me since I find that DS can be played through easily without blackjacking anyone. I was more annoyed by the half-solution of "freeroaming"... Call that freeroaming? My house is bigger then South Quarter, for gods' sakes! The greatest City in the world, with a population over a million, which curiously does not span more land than my street:cheeky: Kind of stupid.
And you couldn't enter, like, 90% of the dwellings. Granted, you couldn't do that in DP and MA either, but there there was no "freeroaming".
