I'm probably not the oldest Thief FM player but certainly not the youngest either.
Right now I'm replaying 'Ascend the Dim Valley' which is a stunning, marvelous FM for which I have the highest praise but- my eyes are old and dim and I can barely see the Video options button when this FM loads, low gamma being built into the FM. Minor inconvenience - I can click around until video options appear and adjust to my liking.
Sound is a more difficult obstacle to overcome. Essential cut-scenes and conversations, with their many accents and tones can be difficult if not impossible to hear and comprehend. Doubly frustrating if these conversations are essential to the plot.
Counter-intuitively, loud ambient sound can be almost unbearable to someone with failing hearing - it manifests as a clashing muddle of noise.
As always, kudos to each and every FM maker; you have my respect and admiration and I will never criticise the so-called 'audiolog' syndrome if it means clear, concise written communications in an FM.
If anyone is interested, these are the Seven Principles of Universal Design. They apply to everything from FM creation to building roads and skyscrapers.
