No, achievements have nothing to do with videogames wanting to be all Hollywood. That's why we have QTEs and linear levels and cutscenes that go on for minutes at a time.
Achievements have to do artificially extending the lifespan of a game that's incredibly short and lacking replay value because of them trying to be all Hollywood. So it's a second-order effect at best. We also have online achievements because of stupid children and man-children obsessed with inflating their e-peens.
