Actually, after Seeing the gameplay video, do you think you will buy 'Thief' ? - by sterlino

He's probably referring to the Kane and Lynch 2 Gamespot fiasco.

I wouldn't trust any review from any major gaming website - not because I think they're being bought, it's more about that they don't look for the same things in games that I do. The reviews here and at the Eidos forums should be plenty to go on though, if you're looking for feedback.

What are your favorite 3 games Brethren?
Renault on 17/6/2013 at 06:35
That's somewhat out of left field - I hate lists when I have to make them. But since you asked...
1. Thief The Dark Project/Gold
2. Riven (which will hopefully someday become (
http://www.starryexpanse.com) this).
After that, it's hard to come up with a clear cut #3. In the running would be:
SS2
Deus Ex
Half Life 2
Condemned
Dark Corners of the Earth
Stalker
Penumbra 1 & 2
Oblivion
The Witcher
Silent Hill 1 & 2
This is a select group of games that I replay somewhat often.
Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim are creeping up on that group too, but I'm still working my way through them.

Well your top five receive good reviews from most major gaming websites.

Everything on that list got great reviews!

Gaming websites aren't usually untrustworthy because they give bad marks to good games (thought it happens), but because they give good marks to bad games. If SE tried to prove anything, he failed.

Well, all reviews are only correct when they agree with you. I think it's possible to get a good sense of whether or not a game is a) made competently and b) your sort of thing from reading reviews. Waiting until a significant amount of player opinion has built up is also a good idea. My criteria for ooh must-buy at full price would be... I dunno, good vibes in general from the more mainstream reviews, positive RPS write-up, begrudging positivity from sarcastic reviewers, people going on about it on TTLG. Last two of those were Dishonored and X-COM.
Reviewing sites I tend to trust more would be.. well, RPS, Eurogamer (although mostly it seems to be RPS writers doing the reviews I want to read anyway on that site), the PA report, and with a spoonful of salt because it's his job to take the piss, ZP. So a good write-up from those guys would make me interested. Gamespot, IGN, PC Gamer etc giving something above an 8 just means that it's probably not horrible.

I've voted for the second option, although I'm hesitant about the "immediately" part. Playing it immediately is what I'd like to do (more out of couriosity, not because I'm so much in love with what I see at the moment), but I'll probably have to wait, if/until it runs under Linux/wine. So far I'm not willing to install Windows just for gaming, but since I'll have to upgrade anyway from what it looks like... aaahh, I guess I should rather have voted for "confused"

Well, I'm definitely not "excited" by what I saw from the E3 demo, so I can't see me shelling out for the game full price.
Maybe I'm sitting on the fence a bit. But it's sort of sitting on the fence between no and I'll not get those hours back, even if it is only £5.99. But maybe curiosity will get the better of me.
Basically I'll only bother with a video game if I think it's doing something that I find genuinely interesting. And that ain't Thief [4], sadly.
