Hm, would be some work. The trouble is, that the english version had been translated quite "freely" into German, which means, there partially are tremendous differences.
yeah, I'm aware of that, someone mentioned it here already...

But if that is no impediment to you, I'll translate it. ;)

I like almost all levels in Thief 2,the ones which i dont really like are:Trail of Blood (i think it was it's name),and the missions after the Kidnap, they are boring and they suck. But the other missions are all great imo, especially Truart's mansion and the Life of the party!:thumb:

Hi, I'm another German that somehow found his way into this forum. :cheeky: And yes, the translation really was done very freely, though xxcoy's example is the most extreme one I know of (I own both the German and English versions of Thief I and II, so I was able to compare them "en detail" :sly: ).
How do you feel about the German translations, xxcoy? In my opinion, Thief I was translated very poorly, whereas the translators of Thief II did quite a decent job. Especially the voice acting was done very well.

Welcome to the forums. Should you wish to a make a more elaborate introduction, this thread is good place for it.

That verse from the Book of Stone is one of my very favorite lines of the entire series.

The truth is, that the plot to T2 did change.
Originally, there was no plot. T2 was actually originally conceptualized as more of a Thief Mission Pack and contained a bunch of various missions set in a more 'modern'-ish era, with nothing to string them together. That's it, it was just a bunch of missions. Sort of like a Thief FM variety pack by professional game developers. It went into development, time passed, and some people on the team started to really think that the idea sucked.
So they tried to find a way to hack the missions together into a plot, came up with a few new missions to span the gaps and make it all make sense, and crossed their fingers.
And that's how we get the Thief 2 plot as is...

But anyway we've got a good plot at CoSaS.
And I'm awaiting mission X :)

Well, I for one feel they did exceptionally well in that regard...

Me too. I rather liked the story to T2.

Actually, I liked both of them. The first game was translated a little helplessly in some cases, but this didn't belittle its great atmosphere.
(In comparison e.g. "FF- spirits within" was translated so poorly it broke up the film.)
I don't even know, which Garrett-voice-actor I prefer (S.Russel, T.Michaelis or A.Bruckner), for I think, all were elected carefully and all performed great.

Thief I in German contained too many utterly stupid translating errors to make it enjoyable for me ("unconscious body" = "unbewusster Körper" ? :weird: , "quick bind" = "schnell knebeln" ? ). In my opinion such laughable mistakes do reduce atmosphere and immersion, Thief I feels quite a bit better in English.

Ditto.
