Something screwy going on here..I have just tried to add a custom object and instead of getting a new entry name at the bottom of the hierarchy tree after using "add" I have "object# and a number".
I tried it in a few sub folders such as household and decorative but instead of the name I typed into the little box I get this flippin' object# and a number.
Ideas on a post card please.:confused:

Try placing a X after your custom name. It is an object because it has already been assigned the name you gave it. Are you using Dromed Tool Kit, or Dedx01.gam? Don't forget to add the .bin model name. Shape>Model Name>Name.bin Do not use the .bin extention after the name of the model.
Another way to add custom objects is to "add" MyCustomObjects under "Physical", then depending on your object and it's use, assign the "Physics>Type to it, such as sphere 1, or obb6.

I added the Cobweb object yesterday as per all the instructions and saved the gamesys..I forgot to assign it and loaded it in today after loading my map...the Cobwebs had turned into very bright blocks and the object name had been replaced by object#6286.
Trying to add it back only gives the same ting, I left it in, added the 4 sub folders that also refused to show up named cobwed1-4 and to them I added shape/name cobweb1 to folder 1 and so on.
I can create the cobweb in game but a pound to a pinch of snuff they will be bright solid blocks tomorrow.
This is a dedx version upgraded to newdark v1.21 and also has dromed toolkit version 1.10 installed.

I don't think you understood what MysteryMan said. The name that you chose for your object is already used in the hierarchy. You need to choose a different name. As a test, name your new object: NewObject. See what happens. I'm betting that name is not already in use, and it will not get changed to Object#nnnn. If that is the case, then simply rename your object to another name that you want to use, and if it gets changed again to Object#nnnn, then you 'll know that name is taken too. Keep choosing a name until you hit on one that is OK. Delete the extra versions that you have put into the hierarchy. That's just messy and will confuse you further.
If that's not it, then I don't understand your issues. Try explaining them better. Don't leave out any information, such as the name you chose and where in the hierarchy you placed the new archetype.
Are you sure the objects aren't showing up as white wedges? If they ever showed up properly but don't after you restart DromEd, my bet is that you didn't save your gamesys or mission files correctly. Try saving the mission as a cow after you add the archetype and a few successful concrete instances of that new archetype. Then shut down and restart DromEd. Open the cow file. If the concrete objects were fine before, they should be fine now. If so, then you indeed screwed up saving the modified gamesys as a gam file or forgot to use the set_gamesys command to establish the connection to the new gamesys before you saved the mis file.

Do you have your "obj" folder created in your T2 directory with a("txt" and a "txt16") folder inside the "obj" folder? Your name.bins go inside the "obj" folder, and your object textures go inside "txt16 folder.

Sorry if I'm a little hazy...been let out of hospital and am still woozy after the op, had a go at edding for the last couple of days as I'm not allowed to do much else...supposed to be testing a coop of mine but my concentration is all over the place hence this problem.
Now in the main hierarchy I hilighted "decorative! clicked "add" named the new odject window "Cobwebs", I then Hilighted "Cobwebs" clicked "add" and named the next box "cobweb1", to this I added shape/model name "cobweb1" and repeated the same for the other three.
I added the light and rendering properties to the first "Cobwebs" object.
There are "txt" and a "txt16" sub folders in my obj folders and I unzipped the cobwebs into the correct places.
It is me that is mucking things up I am sure...suppose it's a cross between pethadin and the other meds I'm on at the moment.

Yes, take care! Get better. Healing such injuries takes lots of tincture of time. But it will happen.
The first time you added "Cobwebs" to Decorative, it should have shown up named "Cobwebs". But every time you decided to add it after that, the name was already taken, and DromEd will not let you reuse the name without you first deleting the prior use of the name in the hierarchy. Hence the "object#-nnnn". That's telling you that the name you chose is already taken.
Do me a favor, delete every place you added it to the hierarchy, delete every concrete instance of the cobwebery archetypes from your mission (or just start from a save prior to doing this), and start over. If you get "object#-nnnn" again, then there is some place where that name is still used in the hierarchy to look at and either rename or delete.
