Advanced Movement aka. "but, I wannaaah.... waaagh!" - by henke

First of I want to be able to have guns akimbo and be able to see my own body when I look down and maybe even a 3pv in DX2. And I want to be able to play PONG on my office computer.
Secondly...
Advenced Movent
Dashing, Kicking & Skiding - Having a dash button and a bar that shows how much longer you can dash. And I wanna be able to break windows by dashing through them. And while Im dashing I want to able to hit the jump button to do a long jump. And while Im in the air, doing the long jump, I wanna be able to press the crouch button to do a flying kick! While dashing and pressing the crouch button would result in a skid that you could trip people with. And while you're in a skid pressing the crouch button would result in a kick so that you could kick ppl up into the air and pump lead into 'em while they're flying backwards. Taping the jump button would result in a little jump just high enough so you could kick ppl in the head with the crouch-button.
Oh, and rolling on the ground while shooting. Just like cowboys in the old western movies.
And maybe some backflips and backflipkicks and uppercuts.
And [crouch]->[crouch-forward]->[forward]+[punch] to shoot a fireball.
Ok. That last bit was a joke ...and so was most of the other stuff too.

And then the Dx2 would be Matrix.. more than Dx2.. wouldn't it..
Althoug it would be cool to fully customize the char, with agility and some skills, like acrobatics (wich you speak of), Matial art and the such.

ok.... NO! DX is awesome the way it is. First person the entire way. Making a third person view would destroy it. I have vehemently opposed all 3rd person games... Even Max Payne. the third person game destroys the immersive quality not to mention the difficulty of aiming etc. and dashing... whats the point? why not just run? its good enough. well I guess i'm outta ideas. or i'm just tired. whichever!!

Not a bad idea...not a bad idea at all...it would bring up a lot more options during the course of the game. And me, being the oriental guy would love to see some marshall arts thrown in there. If ISA can do it and balance it, I'm all for it.
Except 3PV...sorry but I hate it with a passion...and DX is very fitting FPS style (even though it's not exactly a shoot-em up shooter).

Well, I LOVE 3PV! C'mon! MDK, Oni, Hitman, Tomb Raider & MAX PAYNE! If you're gonna make a realy action-packed shooter 3PV is the way to go. However, if you're gonna make a immersive thinking mans adventure/rpg game, like DX, FPV is obviously the way to go. So, ok. No 3pv in DX2.
Now then, "Advanced Movement". Just making you character fun to control makes the game much more fun IMO. In tomb raider I always did sideflips around corners, rolled & dashed alot and did an excesive amount of swan-dives. Same thing with Max Payne & Oni. Just imagine!

Entering a DX2-bar.
JC dashes in through the window & does a flying kick into a badguy. The jumps and grabs the chandelier hanging from the ceiling and swings... lets go and does a triple saltomontal into a wall, runs on the wall(Matrix-stylee). And then he jumps onto the bardesk where he slides on his back while pumping round after round into the remaining baddies with his M16s akimbo. But... he misses one baddie and he's all out of ammo! He rolls down behind the desk while the baddie fills it with lead until he too runs out of ammo and has to reload. The JC runs out from behind the desk and kicks a chair(or something) so it flys into the baddie who gets knocked out.

Well, maybe it's not very DX. But still, its kewl!
And when you have to run long distances, or run away from big nasty robots, dashing would be gladly appreciated.
Oh, and mantlig! We gotta have mantling!

The only movement additions I would want JC to have would be (1) mantling, and (2) a roll-dodge to the left or right (lean l/r + jump) that would rotate the whole camera a full turn...that would be a cool way to enter a room silently and still get the jump on your enemies...you could also practice aiming while the camera is spinning, or have accuracy dependent on an aug or skill...

Maybe in a Max Payne sequel.. I think having the designers focus on stuffs like that would interfere with the elements that made Deus Ex so durn good (open-ended level design, globs 'n globs of npc interaction).

Implementing all those ideas would result in a mixture of DX, Max Payne, ShenMue, Matrix and Hollywood B-movies. What about people like me who loved the sneak attempt? Whose only projectile weapon ever used was the crossbow?
I know that it's goddamn hard to balance a game offering all those offensive and defensive tactical possibilities at the same time. And that's just why it's virtually impossible to provide those who want it with John Wu-moves! It's just too much work.
(And I don't want DX2 to be another one of those 3rd person martial arts good guys vs bad guys action adventure with women whose backs ache because of the quantity of boobs they've got to carry around. Ok, ok, i know Denton is a male.)
