Hello everyone !
I need an advice from all the master thieves on this forum:
I just finished Thief gold who wasn't working for a long time on my computer.
When I was young it was my favourite game and it still is.
I almost cryed when I passed the levels I was blocked when I was young. And the gold additions are soooooo amazing !
Well my question is wich way should I play Thief 2 ? I played a long time ago but never finished it.
I thought about a no save game (Or every level) cause I saved wayyyyy too much for the gold.
I saw that there's many scenarios and I wonder wich would be the most enjoyable for my first time finishing it. I also blackjacked too much people on gold and I know there's more of them on the 2. If there's mods I should add I'm up to it.
Try to remember what it was for the first time and in which way you would prefer play it at that time :)
Also ! I sadly didn't find the secret mission of Thief Gold :/ Do you think I should keep it for the next time I play the game cause I will. Or should I be spoiled ? Cause I really looked much.
Thanks everyone and I'm glad to join the guild !

I'd play using saved games, if I were you. It sure doesn't help your first time playing the game to be frustrated like crazy. I prefer to ghost the missions and remain unseen as much as possible. That gives me the greatest enjoyment, but I was a long time blackjacker, and I can see how that is also fun. But ghosting just kicks it up a notch.
Someone will probably correct me, but there are no real mods that change the gameplay that much, unless you want a mod that enhances all the guard's senses. Though there are graphic enhancement files you can get and a wide screen patch if you want.
Welcome to the forums

I just started playing TG again.
I originally played TG in 1999 and TMA in 2000.
I'm saving a lot. Just because I don't like to do the same thing over and over again.
But I really try to minimize the amount of times I have to reload an old savefile.
In 2000 I already started playing in ghost style. Or what I think is ghost style.
All missions in expert. Never kill. Never blackjack.
I don't care if a guard hears me. If they don't see me, that's fine.
If guards see me, I have to make a decision. If I can get out of sight immediately, I will wait till they continue their patrol. I will never run from guards. (Except maybe sometimes when I'm on my way out, and almost at the exit). If guards see me, and start chasing me, I reload a savegame.
I make sure I take my time to do each mission.
In a walk-through I read that the first 2 levels take 15-20 minutes each. I used 2 hours for each of them. :)
I plan on playing the hidden mission when I get there. I probably need the walkthrough to tell me how to get in.
I installed all patches and enhancements for T1. The game looks good enough for me, especially with the gamma all down, I can't see any detail anyway. :)
Not sure what enhancements there are for TMA. I believe there are more than for T1. I will certainly install them all when I get to play TMA.
Have fun.

Hehe thanks for your answers.
I'll explain better:
Since I played thief when I was young, I always play games with max difficulty.
Even if I don't load that much I kinda regretted saving that much recently. I guess I just wanted to see the end of the game. Plus I hesitated to install the mod who makes the game really difficult and right now I think I should have put it on. It was just too easy in the end except maybe for the return to the cathedral. Not saving would give the real thrill.
I don't care about the graphics ;) I love oldies.
Also: What about the mod at the top of the main thread ? Any good ?
And is the secret mission really really hard to find ? I don't really like to give myself spoils but I wonder if I will ever find it.
Thanks again for your answers. I'm starting to think I will put on anything that will make the game a nightmare.
So for now:
- upgrade guard difficulty
- ghosting
- no evidences
- A save for every levels only
What else ? :D

Not saving would give the real thrill.
Indeed, but given the crappiness of Dark Engine, it might cause frustration rather than thrill way too often ("oh come on, I'm stuck in the wall AGAIN... /restart").
And once you upgrade the difficulty, ghosting some missions may become impossible.

By secret mission do you mean the blooper mission? As I recall you have to change an .ini file to run it. I haven't done it in years but I'm sure someone remembers and will tell you how to do it. Or you could search the forums for it.

The bow upgrade though, now that's a challenge to find.

That's nothing compared to the Alarus extension.

Don't you have to go through the Alarus extension to get the bow upgrade?
Also I forget, where did they put the upgrade in TMA again? :sly:
