That's great advice for the guitar tBm, but I was also after some advice about electro-acoustic pickups. Maybe I should have stated that more explicitly. I want a guitar I love to play as a first priority, but I also intend to use it as a recording guitar. That said, if I really fell in love with a guitar for its sound and feel, I might just stop being lazy and mike that fucker up instead of using an electro.

Well the Yamaha I mentioned above is fitted with a piezo style pickup, which uses crystals to sense string vibration rather than a magnetic type pickup. The sound is supposed to be more "brilliant" than a magnetic, so its used a lot on acoustics and bowed instruments. I have another much older acoustic w/pickup, and there is definitely a much clearer, more defined sound on the Yamaha.

Ok, that sounds worth a look then, but I'll also take Tbm's advice and try to play and buy an instrument. I love Yamaha as I've already said, so that may help to narrow things. Brilliant sound is what I aim for. Pretty sure if I change my mind, that fitting a pickup is pretty easy too.

what I meant was you might want to look for that kind of pickup, regardless of make.

Ok then. Piezo - will do.
