So folks, you've all been waiting for this (or not): here's the new Big Project :D
Likely some time in September, I'm planning to take a ride in train. But not just the first one coming my way. No, I want a special one, one that will take me elsewhere in every way possible.
So there it is: The tentative plan is to depart from Helsinki, go to Moscow, take the Trans-Siberian Railway there, then switching and going through Mongolia and China to end up in Beijing.
This is obviously subject to change as I refine and budget the thing.
Any advice on sights, customs, food, lodging? Any TTLGers up for a meet along the way? Feel free to contribute. :)
Cheers! :thumb:

I took a Siberian history class in college... it was actually very interesting. Be sure to get a hold of some fermented reindeer blood... actually an alcoholic beverage they enjoy out there. Might be further north than where you're going.
Lake Baikal is obviously a spot to consider seeing if possible.

Oh coolness! :D If you travel through Helsinki, maybe you'd like to meet the Finn-kru aka Varkaat? :) We have meetings every now & then, so we could schedule a gathering for the date you're here.

Whatever you do, do not accept Russian dolls on a train.

Siberia in the news today, in a vivid example of compassionate conservatism from Republicans.
Edit: I traveled through China, so if you get that far I'll have advice I could give then.
