Great list!
I've been with the community for so long, I've ended up playing almost every mission (except for T2X, first mission turned me off) and completed 95% or more of them (most all with 100% loot on normal or expert). T1/G I even went through a full replay of every mission on the timeline a couple years back - on expert/full loot of course. (No way am I doing that with T2, though.... just don't have the time anymore.

I dont recognize some of these which is strange but I will play them now :) I tell you one thing I can download this whole list in practically no time whatsoever, takes more time to find the links then it does to download. I used to download these on dialup so much nicer now.

Oh my gosh... I so remember finding out about FMs and just browsing the circle and downloading on dialup in 2004-2006. I would even download a mission while playing a mission I previously downloaded. In fact, I often found I'd finish these usually small missions before the next mission had finished downloading. It was so slow, I started downloading larger FMs at my university's computer labs in 05/06. Finally got DSL in 06.... talk about a change.

Sorry, I don't like these many threads with recommended missions, because everyone's opinion is bound to be subjective. I'd recommend to try
all FMs and therefore Fortuni's (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148090) Brief summaries of all the missions is my ultimate guide thru the FM jungle. ;)
Pardon me, but if everybody would post his personal favorites this forum would become really confusing. :rolleyes:
Even the recent polls didn't always reflect my personal opinion, so ...

... years ago I started to play beginning with older FMs and yes, there are some missions which are IMHO ingenious and will be replayed because of the ranking in my personal list, on the other hand I abandoned several FMs which I found too confusing, hard or whatever. :)

Fortuni's guide is very useful and I use it all the time when choosing which mission should I play next. I am aware that not everyone will agree with my choices. The purpose of my thread, however, was not just to tell everyone about my favourite fan missions, but also make an attempt at creating a list of levels that the majority of community considers classic and worth playing.
Also, as of 2024 the forum is almost dead, so it is unlikely to become confusing.

It seems like a lot of people dont come here often anymore but at least in my case I somehow always end up back here eventually.
I'm sure for some people the Darkmod has replaced Thief1/g and Thief 2 now but for many of us nothing will ever really replace it.
Its just not the same atmosphere.
I do play the Darkmod occasionally but I play Thief1/G or Thief2 FMS more often.
Deadly Shadows and "Thief" get no attention from me they just dont feel right. I own them but meh
The sequels certainly dont replace it in my book and I dont think I'm in the minority here.
So I dont think its quite as bad as you think.

Thanks for compiling the list:thumb:. I find it very useful. Recently, after many years, I started playing Thief again. For me also (as some in this topic have already stated) the only real atmosphere is Thief 1 and 2. A huge favorite for the atmosphere, but mostly for nostalgia is the Dark project (not Thief Gold, I played it later and I think there are additional missions in relation to dark project redundant). So, after I play the base game again, I throw myself into fan missions and this list will be very useful to me (along with, of course, Black parade which is already on my list)
