A.I. Behaviour issue - by alextaffer

Hello to everyone,my name is Alex. I’m enjoying this stealth masterpiece but I haven’t very clear,in my mind, how the stealthy mechanics of the A.I. behaviour is interacting in,and with, the gameplay:I mean, the guards patrolling(Trials 2nd mix,for ex.) are acting strangely, perhaps I didn’t understand exactly how it works(in TH2X,since i'm an avid fan of the whole serie, thus familiar with stealth mechanics, just like y'all),because they just look like they're not concerned about my presence,at all! Even when I slide close to them, nothing changes,up to the point that I can walk freely without'em to ever care about me. Then, only with a weapon drawn, they switch behaviour, getting themselves in alert and sentry status. Please, since I am really understanding and taking into consideration this enormous and marvellous masterpiece enjoying it more than I expected,I would like for you all to gimme a cue about it(surely it's my mistake in misinterpreting something, because i've never heard any comment about this from anyone else). Thanx. AlexTaffer

Hey there ^^
I'm not sure which mission you are talking about but it seems pretty normal that guards don't attack you on sight when you're just walking down the street.
Though I must admit they should not attack you just for having a weapon drawn as long as you're not actually being hostile towards them (like, obviously aiming at them with your bow or attacking them in any way).

We'll be the judge of that.

It sounds like you're playing "The Trials That Shape Us", the museum mission from T2X. That is one of several T2X missions where the outside guards don't react to you unless you do something suspicious. This is similar to "Undercover" from TDP, except that all indoor areas are suspicious to enter. It's unfortunate that drawing a weapon is always considered suspicious, since that includes rope and water arrows, but the game engine doesn't really offer a reliable alternative.

It makes sense for the most part though - what would anyone do with a rope or water arrow that wouldn't be considered threatening?
Sorry officer, I guess I just got a little thirsty there...

:laff: I bet the traders make a tidy profit on water crystals in the desert regions! I was thinking of something like extinguishing a fire for a water arrow, but yeah, that's a bit of a stretch. And rope arrows can actually do damage, so I guess gutter cleaning and roof repair businesses just have to use ladders in the City.

It's a threat because what are you doing there, with that? What are they usually used for in the middle of the night, on or near someone else's property?

Thaaaanx to everyone for answering. I thought that, just like any other Thief game before(and after) Th2X would have had "angry" sentry guards always prone to slaughter us on sight, meanwhile i'm understanding from your answers that only in certain locations they'd get pissed off at their first sight of us... Thx mates :D

No they didn't always have them either, if that's what you meant. Remember the guards around Bafford's well house asking you "How's it going?" for example? ;)
