I have a sitting Male Servant I want to hold a guitar or lute and play a string loop from looperman.com. I wanted to test out Schwaa's "S_Lute" first. The file has a custom lute sound, but I want to use the string loop instead. The readme.txt for the loot says "Feel free to use and distribute this object for use in Thief FM's. Complete file including readme must stay intact." Is it possible to contact Schwaa if I want to use another sound? I also want the instrument to be positioned perpendicular to the AI - on its lap. Would holding an instrument be the same as holding a weapon, because I want both arms to be in contact with it.

Easiest way is to try a CreatureAttachment link and by setting the Joint and Rot Mode maybe it will look good enough for you.
The harder (but more accurate) way is to use Renderer-->Mesh Attach, where you can adjust the angle of the instrument exactly as you need it. You'll have to search for or fiddle with the joint numbers to attach properly to the hands. For the angle, 65535 is the equivalent of 360 degrees, so to turn it 90 degrees would be a quarter of that number. As an example, I tried a Mesh Attach with Joint 4 and an X angle of 15000 and it doesn't look too shabby for a minute of work.

I don't think keeping the file intact means keeping the same sound as the original. After all, if Schwaa allows people to utilize the object, then swapping out sounds would not be a problem, as they aren't part of the object, they're just added on. You aren't actually changing the object itself, it shouldn't be a problem.

Complete file including readme must stay intact.
This simply means that if you are going to redistribute the package, you must redistribute it intact. It has nothing to do with using the object in your mission.

DetailAttachment links are easier than either IMHO.

Thanks, everyone! I will try different methods to see what works. :thumb:

I also posted this over in "What are You Working on..."
The lute contains a DetailAttachement link as an object connected to the AI's abdomen (thanks to Yandros for suggesting!) Now I just have to tinker with the motion editor when I find the time. I want to turn his left hand around 180 degrees, kind of like what the AI have when they want to fight you.
